The "who are you again?" giveaway ....

Hey Todd!

Hope things are going well up in VT!

Not much going on around my area - just working and hoping the company I work for does not go to more layoffs - it's been pretty gruesome lately.

Teaching my last class of the year this weekend, after that here comes Christmas!

Good to see you back - and I understand - sometimes I think people just need a break from the internet, I am getting there myself.

Nice Case Todd.

My story is a hunting story.

Let me take you back, back to the early 80s.

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.......;)

Sooooo, I was in the Marines out in North Carolina and I shared a place off base with a couple of guys from my shop and they got me into hunting.
Lucky for us we lived close to the training grounds for the infantry and artillery units from Camp Lejeune.(We were AirWingers from New River)
Anyways, when the training grounds weren't being used by the grunts, they opened them up to hunting.
The whole area (thousands of acres) was/is divided into hunt units and only so many people were allowed into a unit at a time.
Well, we had our favorite unit to hunt, but couldn't get a pass for that area so we had to hunt an adjoining area we hadn't hunted before.
One buddy drove us in his old F150 and we parked in a good looking spot up on a slight rise.
We spread out and took our stands for a while until it started to rain again,(it rained the night before) so we decided to call it quits for the morning.
So we were walking along and my buddy that didn't drive us out there asks which way to the truck?, and the one that owned the truck said its over here to the right, but the other said no, I think it's over this away.(to the left)
I hate to admit I thought it was to the left also so we split up.
The owner of the truck went his way and we other two went our merry way.

Did I mention we hadn't hunted this area before?

Anyways, my buddy and I wandered in the direction we thought the truck was in and a bit later we came to a creek we had to cross.
Now most of the time these little creeks/drainages crisscrossing the whole area are small enough to jump across and we did so on a regular basis.
Well this one was high because of the rain, but I though if I waded in a step or two I could jump across to the other flooded bank.

I need to mention here that I had a home made climbing tree stand on my back.
It was made out of a metal shelf with a chunk of 5/8 plywood bolted on for reinforcement.
It weighed a ton, but it was strong and stable, just what this novice needed, besides, I was a young marine in the prime of life so it didn't bother me....much.:)

Anyways, I stepped into the muddy water and felt confident about taking another step before jumping across, but dang it, there wasn't any ground under the second step and I sank in over my head with that heavy ass stand on my back.

I'm sputtering and gasping as I claw my way up the other bank while my lucky boonie hat is floating down stream and of course my buddy is standing on the other side laughing his ass off.:grumpy:
I squish trot down stream and fish my hat out of the water and of course my buddy jumps across without a mishap.
After a bit of cussing and settling of the gear on my back we continue on our journey.(squish, squish)
So we wandered for an hour or so until I spotted a rise that looked familiar and low and behold there is the truck with our buddy sitting inside enjoying the heater and thermos of coffee.
It turns out he hiked right to it while we two hiked a big loop around the truck and came to it from the side we had started from.

We didn't get any deer :(, but I got a good story out of the outing.
Hope you enjoyed it and thanks for the chance.:)

Welcome back.

Ive not yet owned a Case Back pocket, so I'd be down for a shot.

Story?..........

Hmmm........

Once upon a time, we stopped at a mall to shop on our way to grandma's. We were running late, and i had to pee.

My parents forbade me to go back inside to pee. My dad muttered if you had to go that bad, you could pee here in the parking lot.
So my parents had to sit there, embarassed, while i pissed on the car next to us.....

People acted like rhey had never seen a 39 year old man pee on a Cadillac before........

(OK, so I was 8 or so when this actually happened.......but a grown up was funnier.........)

thanks for checking in Andy. cheers.

I'm in.

I got a job offer on Saturday. Not the best job in the world but I will be moving to live with my fiancé in a house we just bought so it's definitely worth it to be with her full time. Then we can start really planning for the wedding coming at the end of September.

Oh yeah, and I'm absolutely terrified by all this.
