Dear all,

I'm not fully sure if this is the correct place to post these 3 pictures of my newly acquired knife, as it's actually a modern design, but at the same time it could have been invented 50 years ago. Hence, I thought that the regulars here would appreciate it more than the visitors of the general forum who tend to have a fetish for G10 and carbon fiber :)

Anyway, this is a recently produced limited edition (100 pieces) Böker from their Custom Division Center (CDC). In this case it's a knife made for one of their oldest dealers: the shop Schmelzer in the lovely city of Trier (which features ancient Roman origins and a wonderful church from the 7th century) deals in cutlery since around 270 years ago. Now THAT's tradition.
The knife is a classic elegant and compact backlocking folder.
I think that the basis of this knife is the elegant recent Böker Fellow whose forms are pretty close.
The 3" blade uses the famous Austrian steel N690, which is close in composition to VG10, meaning while it's elegant it's a performer as well. It features wonderful wooden handles. I can't say which wood but you'll agree it looks classy. Total weight is around 60 grams. The fit and finish are superb, actually I thought that it was on par with (and even looked somewhat like) my beloved Mokis.
There is one thing that disappoints: in the catalogue the knife is shown with a clean polished blade, unfortunately Böker found it necessary to add their logo in big letters on one side of the blade and the steel on the other side. It's a very beautiful knife and it would have looked even better with a clean blade!

I will eventually make a video review about it as well, of course.

Wow! The grain in that wood is very dramatic. Attention getting. I'd love to know just what it is. The knife itself is a beautiful study of elegant simplicity of line.

Very very nice knife, Dagon.

yeah Browning put out a version with jigged bone and 440C a year or two ago - probably had Boker make it for them - the Bradshaw folding bowie design - love it!

N690 has the carbon and chromium contents of 440C, but has an increased amount of Moly and small additions of Vanadium and Cobalt that improve the grain structure and strength. I find that it has a better edge retention than straight 440C and is close to that of VG10. It takes a wicked sharp edge and is one of my favorite alloys.

It sure is a good looking knife. It's close enough to a traditional design to be at home here IMO. Congrats!

My bet would be ziricote wood. Very nice design. Question: does it have a stop pin inside for the blade tang to rest against?

All, meanwhile I found out that the striking handle is made of compressed beech. I would never have guessed that.

certainly a clean beauty, i'm surprised about the wood since beech is so plain. a real dressy beauty that would be at home in office or barn.
