We tend to focus a lot on that one 'perfect' woods knife, but most of the time, I really appreciate the usefulness of two well-paired knives (plus a larger, wood-processing tool when needed).

A versatile fixed blade, combined with a good folder, is a classic tried and true combo, yet I haven't seen much on here regarding people's ideal pairings (and why), so I thought I'd kick this off with my favorite 'woods duo':

BRKT Ultra Lite Bushcrafter & a Northwoods Whittler, in a double pocket sheath:

Carried this way, I can slip this in a coat pocket, pants pocket, whatever, and it won't interfere with a pack waistbelt. This duo will handle pretty much all small-to-medium tasks I've ever had a need for. Let's see yours.

Man, that is a good looking set up!!
I really like the pocket sheath.
For the woods, I am leaning towards the BK9 and BK16, pretty much covered with those 2 in the pack.

I carry two-knife combos when backpacking. Knife #2 is most always a SAK; usually a Farmer, carried in my pocket but on extended hunting trips it will probably be a Leatherman Wave in a belt sheath. Knife #1 is generally an Off the Map custom Bushcrafter, Busse CABS, Fallkniven S1, Randall Trout and Bird, Blackjack Woodsman or a Mora of some sort.

Stay sharp,
desmobob

I'm a two-knife sorta guy as well. I like the batonning/limbing/bone-splitting power of my field knife - 1/4" O1 @ 6" blade length and a wicked sharp convex grind (Breeden Custom which is currently with Bryan for some TLC), but i also like a more nimble knife for food processing and similar smaller tasks.

For those smaller tasks, i currently have a Mora MG which is a joy to use. However, as a utility type device, i also always have my Leatherman Wave which has proven itself indispensable for many years. I also EDC a SAK Huntsman which i've also had for many years (actually need to give it some new scales....) and it handles most day-to-day miscellaneous cutting tasks.

Yep I also like to carry the 2 knife combo. Normally it is a med. sized fixed blade with a 7" long blade

I also carry a leatherman wave too.

PS. Frank Major as I am writing this I am watching the Super Bowl and happen to have your knife by me all
sharpened up :D

When in the woods, I usually package more than two. But on the occasions where I only went out with two, it was a chopper and an Izula. The chopper was usually never the same two times in a row.

At the moment... Kabar LHB and 3 3/4" German "Koller" stamped hunting knife, I love that little knife, stacked leather handle, full tang, visible at the bottom. Kinda like a kabar little Fin with shorter handle, different pommel and a full flat grind.

I really did try uploading pics but I didn't work, I uploaded them further down in the thread after achieving success.

I don't have a favorite duo yet. I have a bunch of blades and I tailor my gear to the area and what I'll be doing. It seems like every time I go outside my preferences change just a little bit. Since my last camping trip I bought an RTAK II, Ka-Bar Heavy Warthog, and Mora Companion and I'm chomping at the bit for a chance to try them out. I also can't wait to get my hands on a BK10 and BK16, I know I'll get a lot of use out of both. I find that a two-knife system usually isn't enough preferring a 3-4 blade system

I really like this setup for now. BK2 and leatherman wave. I think the Warthog, a multi-tool, and a small fixed blade like a Mora or a BK14 would be an excellent setup for an extended day-hike. For an overnight or multi-day trip I would add to that a BK9 or even a CS trailhawk and replace the Warthog with a ~5" fixed blade like the BK10.

Nothing like toting a Good Multitool :D I would've said so, but he didn't ask :/

Also toss a Mag.Bar and Sharpener in that kit, you're Good2Go!!

Nice setup hoss!

JK -

That's sweet pair! The larger one looks it could be a heckuva chopper. Can't tell if it's just the perspective of the photo, but does it have a bit of a weight-forward, quasi-bolo design to it? Nice piggyback sheath too.

Here's another of my favorite duos:

Canadian Special and a Little Caper:

It does have a weight forward bolo type blade.

Hi all,

Another 2 knife combo. I just finished these 2 today for a customer.

The smaller knife is my Pathfinder design it has a 5" long blade with a 4.5" long handle and is 3/16" thick

The cleaver type knife has a 12" long blade and is made of 3/16" thick.

another pic of the bigger blade.

My duo would have to be my fox river and probably a OHT, possibly a sak farmer.
The trio would get a GB wildlife hatchet added.

Thanks guys. I hate to see these go, to the new owner lol.
