Here are my two Rob Brown knives: a camp knife with African blackwood handle and one of his very first chute knives with polished buffalo horn handle.

Let me start off by saying I'm pretty much a forged-blade guy. Haven't bought anything else for over 10 years. So I'm over at my buddy Murray's place (see his post and pic above). Seems he won a little contest and got himself a free knife. Like this guy needs another knife!
Anyway he hands me this nice little hunter. Says it's by a South African maker. First thing I notice is that the knife fits the sheath so perfectly it's like the two are one piece. Next thing I notice is that the knife feels really good in the hand. Then I take a closer look and notice the beautiful tapered tang with red spacers and the way the bolsters fit so flush the darn thing looks like an integral. I'm not a hyper-critical guy, but I'm sitting in some pretty good sunshine at this point - flaws got nowhere to hide.
So Murray what did you say this maker's name was? Murray gives me the name and then mentions, real casual-like, what the maker sells it for. To my credit, I manage not to faint and drop the nice new knife.
The quality of craftsmanship in these knives is absolutely first rate, and in my experience, unheard-of at this price point. My crystal ball shows a bowie and maybe one of those nice Price daggers in my futre. It also shows longer waiting times for Mr. Brown's knives.
Cheers,
Roger
A word of caution - if you're lucky and smart enough to go get one of his knives PAY ATTENION while you're handling it. Both my knives are scary-sharp. You can easily shave with the top clip of the chute knife.
photos of my two knives also done by Murray White, some time earlier today.
