The worthless bottle opener

And that alone makes it a good thing. Why dull a knife blade?

I actually tried to use the can opener on my juice S2. It was terrible. Or I just don't know how to use it.

Although not as elegant as a Vic, the can/bottle opener on my CS4 has often done both jobs for me. It just takes a little more concentration. Some say sharpen the edge, but that causes it to puncture bottle caps. Of course, it is always possible your sample is out of spec, but more likely just a compromise combo design that works for both, if not great. I put up with it, as is. Unfortunately, Vic doesn't make a comparable multi-tool with useable pliers in that size.

I thread a split ring through the lanyard attachment on multitools. The split ring makes it easier for me to remove the tool from a belt holster, especially when my hands are cold, wet, or achy.

I ran my old 5.11 boot laces thru 'em and to the belt. Long enough to not constrict working and it helps to make sure that my tool doesn't talk a long walk in the woods if the scabbard fails...

:D
I cant remember the last time I had to use a bottle opener . I have a Leatherman Kick and want to file it down into an awl or something useful. Maybe even make it pointy like a needle.
Do you guys actually get use out of a bottle opener?

Jeez, I use a bottle opener so often I actually bought a full-size keychain bottle openeer because the one on my 58mm SAK just wasn't cutting it. You guys really need to try some good beer!

Oh, now there's the devil's highway. I never liked beer much until guzzling my first premium brew some years back. Now I can hardly down a Budweiser or the like in screw top bottles, forget cans, and I risk carpal tunnel from all the caps lifted over the years at home and away.

Actually, that's an exaggeration. If anyone offers, I'll drink a Bud or almost any beer. They're not that bad. Old German proverb: All beer is good. Some beers are better than others. :)

Vic bottle openers are also good light duty pry bars . Leatherman has lost the plot on their bottle and can openers , thank God the Swiss still like the finer things in life !

Right on that. The large flat head gets more use as a pry bar than as a screwdriver, mostly because almost every screw I find these days is ph. This has been a slow change from decades ago when I mostly used it on screw heads, occasionally as a pry bar. Now it's the other way around. My, how the world has changed

I love my Vic bottle opener, so much that sometimes I use it when other openers are available. It must be the Boy Scout in me :D

"lost the plot?"

I drink cheap beer {Busch} and have cheap knives. I guess if a person fancies hundred dollar knives, their taste in beer is rather expensive.

I don't want to get into a poverty contest here (Furniture? We were lucky to have a brick to sit on!), but there are a lot of good beers out there not costing much more, if any, than the heavily marketed beer flavored water passing for the real article. Usually, I indulge in the higher priced ones only when someone else is buying.

If there is one in your area, try Trader Joe's market for their house brand brews. I like TJ's Black Toad and Fat Weasel ales. Great taste at a reasonable price.

The most expensive knife I own cost me $50. Whatever I saved went for good beer, and then some. :D

Budweiser sponsors my bowling team so I must remain loyal. My favorite is Amber Bach. Dont need a bottle opener for it either.

Alot of the beer I buy requires a bottle opener.
So...:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup: to the bottle opener!

Trader Joes just raised their prices on beer, by I think a dollar a sixpack. I was talking to the beer guy at TJ's and he said the price of glass went up. It went up more than a dollar, so TJ's is eating the balance, so says the beer guy.

And I would never trade my bottle opener. I actually don't refer to it as such, I call it the "beer opener."

And go figure, in Portland Oregon, one of the three Meccas of beer (Belgium and Bavaria/Bohemia the other two) the most consumed beer is Pabst Blue Ribbon. Ugh.

not beer drinkers, eh? most of the good beers don't twist off...

Fortunately I live in a place where most of the beers are adequate and many are very good, and pretty much all of them are twist tops. I can't remember the last time I used a bottle opener.

I actually use the bottle opener and believe it or not that cork screw that I always thought was useless I've used on more than a few occasions.

I've never used the awl.

Twist tops actually let some air in and the beer can skunk easier. It's not an issue if the beer is fresh, but can be if it's sat on the shelf for a while.

Life is too short to drink cheap beer (eat a lot of ramon noodles and buy better beer). Not that I haven't had my share, but the only thing that could make me give up drinking would be a steady diet of Busch. At least move up to a premium lager such as Blatz.

I use the blade and bottle opener more than any other tools. In bottle openers I prefer Vics, not the combo opener on my Leatherman tools.

ok, maybe saying "good" beers is a bit off, but certainly my preferred beers need them. like Pacifico

Found another use for the bottle opener, a fingernail cleaner.

Another; athough the Leatherman combo opener is only a "better than nothing" bottle opener, it makes an excellent scraper to get mud out of boot treads. A good point here is that just about everything on a multi-tool is multi- purpose.

I've used my bottle opener as a very light pry bar to open or remove plastic housings on various items. It is small enough to fit in any area your hand can fit, although I do recomend unplugging or disconnecting the power before you do so.
