In case anybody is wondering the khukuri is a 20 inch Ang Khola.

If that is a 20 inch Ang Khola, then that is one HUGE pair of hands

As a suggestion Bill, you might want to have that picture included with your khukuris when you send them out. Or reference it on your website. It makes the point much more dramatic that just saying what not to do. I get a little queasy just looking at the bottom picture.

Clay, you identified perfectly. It's a 12 inch Ang Khola.

Cliff, I added the pix to my guarantee sheet which also includes some maintenance tips.
And thanks for the suggestion. I think I will post the picture to the website if I can find a good spot for it.

Forumites, for the benefit of all if I forget to bring this picture back to the top of the list every two or three weeks please do it. As I often say I am getting old and forgetful so let's help save our brothers' fingers.

Bill, thanks for the picture.

I've used lots of types of knives for over 30 years, but you know, now having my first Ang Khola, I was doing it wrong.

Makes total sense to me why when seeing the pictures. Don't know why I hadn't decided that on my own.

Good thing to have here and with your knives you send out.

Thanks again.

And thank you for bringing this back to the top again...something I've got to remember to do.

These pictures are on the bottom of the guarantee sheet I received last week. Great idea, good instructions!!

What? Another knife? Don't you have enough of those things already?
How many does one person need?

The first time I unsheated a khukuri I did it per the "no" picture. I got such a scolding that I never made the mistake again. It is almost terrifying that one would make such an obvious mistake -- including myself.

I was about 4 when I got my first khukuri from my father - a mini-khukuri, actually, but sharp all the same, 4-5" blade. And before Dad could say anything, I promptly pulled out the blade just as I'd seen him and the Gurkhas do it, unfortunately I did it as in the "NO" photo. The result? a terrified, wide-eyed bawling kid; blood all over; several stitches; a scar on my palm that I carry to this day; and a healthy respect for all bladed weapons!

Of course, that experience doesn't seem to have dampened my enthusiasm for weapons of all kinds!

Just wanted to bring it back to the top...for safety's concerns! Actually, this comes about after cutting myself today on a knife (non HI) and realizing that I did it because of unconsciously sheathing it stupidly:-( It's so easy to avoid cutting yourself on a khukurie sheath, as long as you do it the right way, and with the right forethought...or at least thought!:-)

Take care,
John Johnson
