anyone know of any good references or sources for info on
blades used in movies and or TV ?
I'm interested in expanding my collection on this front.
looking for licenced repros or actual propts.
Thanks.

I know that Jack Crain made a lot of movie knives, and is selling them, or at least lists them on his web site. He did stuff for the TV series War of the Worlds, and the movie knives for Predator, Commando, Executive Decision, etc... I think someone mentioned in another thread that he's been having production problems lately, but I don't really know anything about him. Maybe someone here can give you more advice. I believe his website is www.crainknives.com. Also, I know that the late Jimmy Lile made the official knives for the Rambo series of movies, there used to be some for sale at www.robertsoncustomcutlery.com. If you want older stuff check out the book 100 Legendary Knives, they have a section on makers. One of the fellows listed worked almost exclusively with movie stars in the 1960's - 1970's. His name escapes me right now though. Good luck in your search.

Theatrical blades are likely to be aluminum for economy and safety. Sometimes they use modified fencing equipment. I have a schlaeger that was used for movie combat training. Props that would be useable are a small minority.
Here's a website with links to a bunch of prop stores. Ebay is another likely place to find things, but it is harder to prove their provenance.
