Therapeutic flipper knife

The Kershaw RAM is good. The ET is even better, but you may get bored with it after a while and might want to tray a balisong.

How about a Bradley Kimura? It's a different kinda flipper;)

Seconded.
Or, if that one's too big, get a BM32 Morpho.
But.... a balisong is sure to fit the bill.

Repeated sequential opening and closing of an AO will fatigue the torsion bar, I believe, which could lead to premature failure. With that in mind, a Kershaw Ram or a Kershaw OD-1 would be ideal, as there is no bar to worry about.

RAM, NRG-II, OD-1, or RAM (not a typo) for non balisong therapeutic flipper.

I would avoid assisted open knives, as fun as they are, for therapeutic flipping for the reasons A.P.F. stated.

This is my therapeutic opener list of knives I own or owned. The category headers and comments are mearly my opinions based on my experiences. Every knife is excellent in its own right.

OH YEA! Therapeutic it is

Mikkel Willumsen Mr. Mug V.2 - Technically not a flipper, but slams into action with a spyder hole and IKBS
Yuna Mini-Hard 3 - Flips open with a satisfying thwack. Although not technically perfect still my favorite knife.
GTC Ti Prisma - Bearing pivot
Keith Ouye Flipper - Fast and easy
R J Martin Q36 - Bearing Pivot just pull the trigger and BAM!
Les Voorhies Model 7 - IKBS and fast!
Todd Begg CIG(2) - IKBS effortless with a thwack
Kershaw Tyrade - Speed Safe done right
Kershaw Ti Bump - ditto

OP, depending on your budget either the Kershaws or the RJ Martin would be my recommendation.

Great if you get it just right

Allen Elishewitz Ra
Tom Watson Hump Flipper
Brian Tighe Tighe One ON
Yuna Hard 4
Yuna Zombie Slayer
Kershaw Tim Galyean JYD2 Ti/SG3

The following are included to show that flippers aren't necessarily all therapeutically satisfying

Hey man, just doin' my thing (all three flip open effortlessly, but are too quiet to make the therapeutic list )

Mikkel Willumsen Tuco - IKBS
Todd Begg Gen 3 Glimpse(s) - IKBS
Brad Duncan Misfit - Bearing Pivot

Oh man, do I have to (not as easy to open)?

Scot Matsuoka Pe'a
Andy Fitz Alias
Rick Hinderer XM-18 - Thank heaven for Rick's inclusion of thumbstuds

Thanks very much guys for the great input! Special thanks to Statmonster you've given me plently of food for thought on this topic:thumbup:

My vote would be a flipper that doesn't require wrist action. Something with IKBS like a Galyean Pro Series or maybe that new CRKT knife that uses it.

I am with BoxAnt on this one. The OD-1 is really addictive. Not really sure about the Tyrade but looks good, and I want to try a BaliYo, just don't want to spend the cash.

Any RJ Martin flipper.

I'd check out that new CRKT knife designed by Ken Onion. At a street price of well under $100 with IKBS pivot, that has to be a "stress release" flipper.

Where are these for well under $100? Mine cost about $110.

My Hinderer XM-18 3.5" flipper opens smooth as silk with no wrist action.

Any of the better quality butterflys/balisongs if you have the skills - I believe that balisong flippers know quite a few different techniques and most of these look very intimidating - like Bruce Lee's nunchucks.

Alternately, an OTF doubleaction auto like a Benchmade Infidel - the constant Snick...Snick will be as annoying as a click-penbut once again far more intimidating

All this assumes you're happy to terminate your current sleeping arrangements

Made up my mind, going to give the Kershaw Ram a go. Thanks once again for input and effort . HAVE FUN .. Faron

[SNIP the super satisfying ones]

XM-18 not so easy to flip? Really? I'm not calling BS on this b/c I've never tried one; I'm just bummed about it is all b/c I really want one, and flipping fun is high up there on the list of raesons why I want one. For such an expensive knife and with Rick's stellar rep one would figure the flipper would work gloriously.

My Hinderer XM-18 3.5" flipper opens smooth as silk with no wrist action.

Huh. Maybe statmonster had a 3" and the shorter blade doesn't have as much weight to aid with inertia, because the 3.5" seems to work fine.

Bob45 digs his XM-18 but doesn't specify the length.

Maybe I should start a poll of XM-18 owners and their opinions of Rick's flippers, b/c I don't want to spend $600 and find that is isn't perfect in every way. Am I expecting too much? At that price I don't think so... okay, so it's actually around $400 from Rick, isn't it, but still...
