THANK YOU MY FRIEND!

Recently I lost my PPP run Ebony Spear Point Barlow ( Charlies great run of Barlows )

This was one of the knives that had travelled with me to England-gone all over the place - Scotland, London you name it - then all the way back.

A loss of not only a knife with that sort of connection, but a knife I dearly loved to carry, a special knife.

After I posted my loss - Paul pm'd me with a good luck message in finding the knife-he too as we all know knows the love of the Charlow.

I still couldn't find the knife, and ...well you pretty much know what happened, probably because you all know just what sort of person Paul is - he's one great guy - he pm'd me and said that his very special Ebony Barlow was now coming my way.....

We know that even if we Queen a knife like this - its not easy to let that knife slip into that box and know you will never see it again - not because of selfish reasons of monetary loss , for reasons of pure pleasure of having a knife like that to take out and admire - thumb it up a little ( ooops exposing myself here a little )..

I just was blown away - as Paul has done to me before-and not only me - but MANY other people as well - Paul...its not just because you gifted something of value - because that's is there in that knife anyway - and that in-itself is massively appreciated, but its your inner self - being the person who is thinking of another - and making a personal sacrifice for the others benefit - and that is something special.

I am one reeeeeeal lucky Traditional knife lover here - because WAIT .......THERE'S MORE!!! :D

Paul ALSO added a beautiful knife that to me is what knives are about - I just love these older knives - I don't care whether they are the best of the range - whatever - to me here is a knife that is old, it has awesome Matchstrike pulls, CLASSIC style, it came in it's original box - with its so very cool paper work, this OLD CUTLER ROCKS man.

And ...Paul did what I always forget to do - he added a cool little US Dime from 1946! - with a great note, that like my other notes from my other Brothers and my Sister Sarah :) - go in a place where they are kept bound together, hopefully the reason why is that when I am not here, my children when having a look through my papers - will find that their Dad had comradeship that hopefully they will pick up from the way the are kept so safely- my Children will feel just how special these things were to me.

Charlie also needs to be mentioned here - as when he read of my demise wailing in self pity - he offered me also a knife to replace the lost one - Paul had already offered me his - I hope I didn't offend you Charlie by not accepting your most generous offer, but I would have been pretty greedy to accept yet another fantastic offer after Pauls.

I have said this before about Charlies GEC Barlows, people have made comments that " if they spend $100 on a knife-they'd better be perfect"!!!!
ummmm..pardon me? - $100 isnt even 2 hours Labour for me to work for someone, and yet that $100 gets a knife that will literally last 4 to 5 ( and Im betting more ) lifetimes. Adding to this - Barlows are made for work - and to me I don't give a hoot if they have a mark on the knife or a wee chip from the Ebony, but here is my point - just look how well made these knives are - this particular knife is just NOT that far away from Custom Quality, The scales are so deep and beautiful, the fit and finish is just perfect, the working of the knife - as in the walk and talk is superb.
Opposing nail nicks is something cool for these Charlows - just a beauty of a knife that already is in my pocket.

I will always miss my knife, but Paul has made me one Happy Kiwi - so my blade brother - thank you so very much for extremely kind thoughts and acts of tremendous generosity you have shown me, and to others here in this community.

here they are.....

What more is there to say? We have fantastic members, here.

I already read the news in the Barlow thread, but what a fantastic write-up Duncan, and great pics too

I was real sorry to hear you'd lost your Charlow, which I just thought you'd mislaid at first, it's rotten to lose a knife. But what an amazing and selfless gesture has come out of that. Now, when you carry your Charlow, you'll be thinking of Paul's friendship and his generous gesture. Charlie too, who I think is with us everytime we slip one of those great knives in our pocket.

Outstanding act of generosity Paul, from one great guy to another. We truly have a bit of Heaven on Earth here :)

I love it when a sad story has a happy ending!!!!!

There are great folks here indeed!

Wonderful thread - wonderful guys here!

Thanks for sharing this great act of generosity to the community. We all can actually be proud of being members of such great people. :)

This read made me smile, Duncan. You are the man - Paul :)

This place is something else!! You two exemplify all the qualities that make this place what it is!! Over the top, Paul!!!

Paul, your a real gent sir

Two really great gifts there, gotta love that yella fella.

Real pleased for you Dunc. Enjoy making some new memories with these.

This place, because of the great folks in it, is truly like no other place that I know of!
Well done , and good on you, to both of you fine gents!

Duncan and all, there is more to the story then meets the eye. When gifted something we are all taken a back by the generosity we just received. We feel "not worthy" or that we have to return the favor maybe?

It's Duncan's overwhelming kindness, politeness and his ability to always convey a positive tone in a thread or a post  That I truly admire. We struck up a friendship a few years ago and have corresponded via email or PM's throughout. My tag line on my email includes my phone number as well. While working one day Duncan calls me and when I check my messages I listen to his message. I was very disappointed I missed his call/calls, that's right calls. Because later that day and a few days after Duncan called again---always leaving messages, me always missing them.

I played the messages back to my wife Nanc, she loved them, the accent, and the positive content of the messages themselves :) To be honest I would play the messages back more than once to understand them fully :p Lets just say you to develop an ear for that great KIWI accent  ;)

I'm rambling but for good reason---regardless I'll try to wrap this up :o Duncan gifted me some coins awhile back because I had expressed that I have an interest in them. Now not only did I hear from Duncan, but Jack Black and Mike Berkovitch as well. Both Jack and Mike sent me coins!!! I received Jacks and posted a thread on the ones I received from him but within a week after I rec'd coins from Mike (thread to come later on Mikes coins).

The coins I rec'd from Duncan were very near and dear to him and had a strong family tie to the coins---and he sent them to me!!! Duncan asked that I not post a thread on his very generous gift to me and I honored that---until now :o Sorry Duncan---I had to tell the people here!!!

Anyways, I am the fortunate one (as we all are) to belong here, this place, the people, the camaraderie, the friendship and brotherhood and sisterhood is amazing. It's these threads that always keep me coming back to the traditional forum---there truly is NO PLACE LIKE IT!!!

Okay, I'm done ;) Thank you Duncan---no one better to have the knife than you my friend :thumbup::thumbup:

Paul

The way you gentlemen lead by example is an inspiration. I have a clue what all the fuss is about.

how could you do that mate?

Not the same, yours IS a 2012 PPP Macassar Ebony (not Was, its still out there pining away for you)

The one in my pic is a 2013 Gabon

I predict there will be another run in African Blackwood by next Summer (Let Charlie know ;-))

Great read Duncan. When I first ventured into Traditional, many thousands of posts ago, I noticed right away that this place is different.

I know I've said it before, but it is about much more than the knives... There are so many great people here, and the generosity is something you don't see often.
In daily life we see so many people who are wrapped up in themselves, and their possessions, and could honestly care less about others. It is the "Me" generation.

You don't see that here. While I don't spend as much time here as I use to, it is always refreshing to stop in and see that things haven't changed here.

Very decent. We all know what it is to lose a knife, it's a real blow when it's a favourite. These kind gestures benefit not only the recipient but all of us.
