There Is No Plan "B"

I don't know that it's official but I haven't seen any more action lately. I guess the few I got will have to do. Nighty-night.

:D

Congrats Brother! Those were hard fought scores whoever walked away w/em! Ya win some ya lose some!:D

There is never "official notice." Skunk just removes it. It could be gone tomorrow AM or he may have a gagillion of these. We don't know.

Unreal Bro! You've got the HogFu for sure! I saw the order screen for 1/2 a sec., and it said sold out!

I'm earning my stripes! I now have a Boss St BP Proto and a Skeleton Key in a piggy back sheath and have had all three Sar3's in a cart! Kept the Black & Red and now the BP! Just call me Canadian Bacon!

Well, after missing all the previous releases, I scored a BP at 2:30 eastern just out of sheer luck but they are no stock now. I only bought the black paper as a place holder for a bruiser in case I miss out on the Blue/Black during upcoming road trips. Worst case scenario if they don't offer them is I can send it to the spa to get beat up! Well, good night and good luck all.

Well, it's understandable, it's a heck of a nice knife for $217. I'd imagine a lot of "Busse Haters" even lined up for that one.

How about developing a professional business method to sell to customers given that demand greatly exceeds production; as it does for most custom and semi-custom knife makers? I love Busse’s product, but outside of ordering ahead of time for their production knives I’ve given up on the rest of the lunacy on how knives are offered for sale.

I was first turned on to Busse knives by a 10th Group friend a few years back while I was stationed in Stuttgart. He showed me the blade and told me how great they performed, but his comment then was “but I’ll be damned if I can figure out how to buy anything from them”. Busse’s last minute bladeforum sale notifications like the recent "SAR 3 at 9:30" debacles may be liked by some, but I suspect I’m not the only customer frustrated by them.

This comes up periodically, and I used to feel similarly - dare I say - entitled.

It's really not that difficult, and the bottom line is - it's their company and they run it how they like, and they have no problem selling out as it is.

There are (at least) five common ways to buy a Busse knife:

* Direct from BusseCombat, currently offering two knives (BWM, BOSS Street)

* From the Exchange here on blade forums (tons available, at good prices these days).

* Direct via one of the few Gaanzas they hold each year, first come first serve.

* Direct via the Blade Shows, first come first serve.

* Semi-direct via the Company Store (Like the SAR 3s), first come first serve.

It's a little confusing at first, and not perfect (I mean - sure - I'd like to order whatever I want however I want whenever I want, but it's just not possible).

Otherwise, it's not rocket-surgery - and lots of knives are bought and sold regularly, and in the last year more than I've ever seen.

And, once you have one or more in hand and can see and feel the difference - it's makes it all worthwhile and less of an issue. IMO.

Best fixed blade knives ever, backed by great people and an amazing warranty. Well worth the idiosyncrasies.

Due to the popularity of these SAR3's, it really wouldn't have mattered if a month's notice was given or an hour's...the same result would have occurred, which was (website issues aside) an instant sellout. Busse Combat rides a fine line between meeting demands with folks who use them and keeping collectors interested, because the knives retain both their reputation for excellence and also their value, IMO, and I don't see a better system that would still keep this balance...Jerry Busse has a working system now that does what it's supposed to do, and that is to sell knives efficiently.

Two rules apply here:

1.) The Bossman is always RIGHT.

2.) If the Bossman is WRONG, then refer to Rule 1. ;)

I don't see a change in the system happening until Jerry believes that a change is necessary. Until then, this forum is where one comes to find the latest news on what will be offered...and when.

Good Hunting! :)

That's a good expanation Jaxx! It can be frustrating to purchase but there is a method to the madness!:D

I kinda like the way Busse knives are sold ... ganzaas and offerings like last nite are a blast !

It's mostly madness. :D

Nuke41 comments are well taken, not everyone wants to put up with playing the game to get the knives. People who have been around a few years know that buying a Busse has actually never been easier; but it's still not like ordering from Amazon with a gazillion choices and next day delivery.

Doesn't really matter, as it seems to work for Jerry. It is what it is.

Hey Nuke41, I hear ya.... and I'm sure lots of folks feel the same way that you feel. But here is the deal... INFI isn't mass produced and heat treated like, say 1095 for example. The heat treatment time takes days, not hours.

There is no doubt Busse would like to produce more, but invariably when this occurs, quality suffers. I can guarantee Jerry will NOT allow that to happen.

I've missed out on knives I'd love to own, and I know it sucks sometimes... but hey, that's just how it is. Quantity is limited to the amount Busse can produce in a quality way. I'm OK with that. Hang around a while, and you will be too.

wow I got lucky, I wandered in to check at 8am this morning (6:30 eastern) and there just happened to be one there waiting for me, I didn't even have to hit F5 once, must be my lucky day !
