We regret to inform you that the agreement between Spyderco & Rekat did not go through.

Therefore, the Rolling Lock project has been dropped. My apologies to those who will be disappointed.

This will change a few models that were scheduled to include the Rolling Lock, as well as put their delivery date farther back.

No problem, I ordered and used a Carnavore for two days and traded it for a Master of defense Tempest. I felt that I got the better end of the deal.I didn't care for the lock design. It seemed to make the knife thick and ungainly or some thing. After being used to Starmate and Wegners and a another couple of dozen Spydies, I just couldn't get used to the rolling lock thing.I think the little slider thing on the side looked out of place on a tactical folder. Just my opinion and I could be wrong.

Disappointed indeed!! But!! maybe now Spyderco will come up with a lock deisgn that's better than anything out there!!

Hmmm . . . (and in complete ignorance of the economic considerations involved) . . . How many blade hole permissions is an Axis Lock license worth?

So far I like the Axis Locks I've met.

I agree with James, I like axis locks much better than rolling locks.

Can't say I am not disappointed. But, you mentioned some "in-house" lock designs. Knowing your track record for excellence, I look forward to their unveiling.

Keep going: In house lock (IHL) Military, IHL MBCF, the Chief! IHL Military, IHL MBCF, the Chief!

There, I feel much better already...

Heck Sal, can't say I am not dissapointed, but, with the talent you have in house... The Spyderlock is just around the corner! I can wait!

I really like my Carnivour and Pioneer II, but I almost always carry my Military.'Nuff said!

Ho Thanks !!!!

I got tired of hearing all those rolling lock dud discussions... this will put an end to it...

I trust Spyderco to come up with new and innovative ideas for new models...

Well, I'm not too heart broken. I'm sure the rolling rock is a solid design but the lock must be pretty expensive to produce as REKAT's rolling lock prices are higher than Benchmade's axis-lock prices...

There are other lock mechanisms out there. Button/plunge locks seem to be making a comeback and Scott Sawby's "Self Lock"(?) seems simple and very stout. If Spyderco wants to augment it's mid-locks and liner-locks I'm sure they'll find something equally strong and fail-safe.

Doh! Bummer...

But I guess I'd like a Spydy with an axis lock just as well!

I need a bigger bucket.

I doubt you will see a Spyderco with an AXIS lock anytime soon or possibly ever.

You will however see a new lock design from Spyderco in the VERY near future. It promisses to be a very strong design and should give the AXIS a run for the money.

As a man who barely resist a new Spyderco, I am almost happy that the Rolling Lock deal fell through! Afterall, I just ordered a Matriarch and I just saw a SpydeRench yesterday at my local store (before it was shipped to a collector), plus I want a Calypso lightweight. No, I don't mind at all that will be no Rolling Lock Military!

I was really looking forward to a Wegner or Military with a Bob Taylor Rolling Lock

Too bad, my two favorite production companies couldn't hash out the deal.

I am sure Spyderco will have some other locks coming along, BUT will it be a strong OR stronger than a RL?!

Has ANYONE ever licensed the Sawby lock? Between the self-lock and the hole, we're talking completely ambidextrous!

The button/plunge on the SpeedTech Synergy is very nicely done. Is that a proprietary design?

I don't have any problem whatsoever with
Spyderco's liner locks . The Military and
Centofante that I own both lock like a safe ! I just don't have any desire for some whizbang contraption using springs that sooner or later will break .

I've got kind of mixed feelings on this. The rolling locks I've handled so far all seem a bit green -- gritty, maybe a little jerky, etc. But I figured that Spyderco would figure out a way to refine the design.

On the other hand, as long as Spyderco has some in-house replacement for the liner lock, I'm pretty thrilled.

No Military with a rolling lock?!

sniff!

I guess I better break out the anti-depressants.

Wait a minute! An in house lock that'll give the Axis Lock a "run for it's money"?

WOOOHOOOO!!

Very sad day. I was really looking forward to seeing the Spyderco rolling lock in production after playing with them at the SHOT Show. As I write this I have a C26S Red snap-it on my belt loop, a beautiful, Spyderco/Jess Horn amber bone lockback clipped to my pocket and a REKAT Swept-point Pioneer in its kydex sheath directly over the Horn. Two quick points. First my REKAT is as smooth as glass, and I love it. In 3 years of selling REKATS, we have had ONE unhappy customer. That is pretty amazing in itself. Second point. Our REKATS are LESS expensive than the AXIS. Shop around. I am very sorry that my Pioneer that sits above my Spyderco, is the closest collaboration that will happen. The Spyderco rolling lock would have allowed many people to enjoy a very fine knife.
