There Will Come a Time...

I got 2 sets of folks who were buyers and hoarders, couldn't get them to Downsize, wouldnt move smaller.

I now know that "all that valuable stuff" is not valuable, it's a burden..... That's it's True cost.

I only have handful of knives now and I "bond" with them. I take much more pleasure in having few selected (carefully thought out) knives that create memories instead of chasing the high that fades away quickly.
Same applies to all kinds of clutter that never gets any real usage. Less is more.

I did my best to minimize once I got my own place, a 1 bedroom in Cap Hill, Denver. Sold off my entire knife collection (then bought two knives more practical for my needs), sold off most of my guns to standardize calibers, got rid of a LOT of totes filled with items I've moved from place to place for decades and never used, got rid of more than half my clothes. Pretty much the only thing I did not sort (yet) was my two small bookshelves.

That opened up the place a lot more, making it seem bigger. The closets and drawers are all decluttered and well organized. My ex had SO MUCH STUFF... with an entire storage unit filled with MORE STUFF... she must've had over 50 pairs of shoes, most of which ended up donated to Goodwill.

I'm 60 now and I've decided to slow down on buying new knives only opting for certain grail pieces.
I have resolved that when I turn 70 I will begin the process of selling off everything except my favourite 30 knives and 10 watches.
This leaves a fairly small problem for my family and I will leave detailed instructions on value and disposal.

30 knives is going to be very hard for me. I had 30+ customs already in my early 20's and now 40 years later almost every knife has some sort of sentimental value, especially knives which were orders. But I have resolved to do it and not leave a mess when I shuffle off.

I've already selected the knife and the watch I want with me when I go into the ground so that's one less of each to worry about! 😁
