There's a NEW Fiskars Slide-Out Saw

I wonder if the clip affects how your hand grips the saw? It looks like it might get in the way.

You should have your hand back a bit, but I would still have put the clip on the other end. They never ask me about these things before bringing them to market!

I'm gonna try one. I have a Bahco that works great, but the Gerber Sportman's saw is half the weight and I assume that the Fiskars is about the same as the Gerber. I try to practice Leave No Trace, so extensive wood cutting is a survival technique rather than regular camping practice for me, and I'd like to cut down the weight.

i have the version without the clip and like it alot. i agree that it looks like the clip would get in the way if you wanted to grip it more forward. it also makes the saw much more bulky, and the slim package is one thing that i like alot about the saw as it is.

I'm a big fan of the original version of that saw, mine are Gerber labeled. I have two, one in each of my larger two packs and would much prefer to use one than an axe or hatchet to process firewood or cut wood for a shelter. They are made as pruning saws and work very well. They are also very lightweight and far safer to use than a hatchet.

Yeah...me too. I got a Silky saw for Christmas that is clearly a better saw than the Fiskars--but it weighs twice as much as the Fiskars--for something I almost never use. Silky saw goes in my winter day pack. The Fiskars gets carried in the summer.

looks pretty good. I have the regular slider and it's a great saw, I especially like that it weighs next to nothing.

regular slider over the clipped version, it would get in the way. My gerber/fiskars slide saw has 2 holes at end and one at front to lash to a stick if needed. You could put a cord loop through and have a reg. biner at the end.
Great saw's for the money.

I wish they'd beef-up the blade thickness just a bit. We used mine (the older model) this weekend to saw logs for a campfire, and ended up having to bend the blade back into shape in a few places where the saw would "catch" during the forward stroke, causing bends in the blade.

It's because of this that I would not consider this saw (at least the older version I've got) a primary cutter, but rather a lightweight alternative when hiking, etc. as aforementioned.

Professor.

Just my 2 cents, I have 3, the oldest 8 years with no bends.
Too much pressure on the forward stroke which is more for clearing out the cutting channel. Go harder on the backstroke and avoid cutting knots.
Have a good day Professor.

i was just going to post about this saw. I got it today at menards with my yearly bonus for using my big card .It was 7 bucks. comes with a clip that attaches to your belt like a cell phone clip so you can just swivel it and it comes off. cant wait to put it threw its paces. its very light. oops just looked at the link. i have the old saw. I think i like it better. i think the clip would get in the way.
