...about a Sebenza.

I had an offer earlier today (on the web) to trade my large 21 UG for a Hinderer XM18 3.5 Bowie. I was very tempted, as I've never seen a Hinderer in real life, and I really want to experience one (like on my top three list). I thought for a minute;

"I would still have my 'Zaan, so I wouldn't be CRK-less", but then I thought;

" In my current life situation (I don't want to go into it, let's just say there have been some changes in the last year), I will probably never be able to get another Sabenza, let alone a UG", so I turned it down, Even though I'll probably never have another chance at a Hinderer.

So I'm at the point where I just can't imagine myself without my Sebenza and my 'Zaan. There is just something about my CRK's, especially my UG, that is just... I don't know... something... good, nice, worth owning. I wouldn't trade them for anything.

I don't think I'll ever have another one, but that's ok. I'm happy with the two I have, and I feel like there's really just nothing better out there that would justify giving them up.

I guess i'm just rambling, but I'll bet some of you know what I mean.

I had the hinderer bug years ago and sold off several one piece knives to get them. As nice as the hinderer's are they are no CRK. I had 14 hinderer's at one time, now I am down to just 1. As for CRK, I have owned well over 120+. That should tell you enough about what I think of CRK. I love the UG's, would love to see a pic of yours.

I definitely have more CRK's than Hinderers too, but love them both. I just see them as having a different purpose. If I want a gentleperson's knife, a piece of functional art, CRK all the way. If I want something I can beat the crap out of and abuse if necessary, I put a Hinderer in my pocket. When I was deployed I carried a Hinderer in my back pocket where I could get to it quickly, and a CRK in my front pocket.

I liked the hinderer's a lot, but I just found I love CRK a lot more. If not for CRK, I would probably have a couple dozen xm's.

I am in the same boat as Nyefmaker in that I sold off some of my CRK collection to get into the Hinderer scene. The Xm-18 is a great knife but I am finding myself more drawn to the Sebenza. To me the Sebenza is a little less obtrusive to carry and more elegant. The XM-18 on the other hand is a tank.

Here are some pics of mine, UG in silver contrast:

That one is beautiful and a keeper in my book. Funny I just sold one that was very similar to that one. Only sold it because I have some other CRK's that I would like to purchase.

Definitely from the collecting side, I prefer CRK. Maybe because Rick hasn't done a UG XM-18? :p :D I do have about 10-12 Hinderers total, but definitely haven't kept up with all the grinds in the last couple years. I almost never have the need to carry a tank anymore, now that I'm a Stateside office rat.

Fortunately will never have to deal with wanting a hinderer since they seem to be right handed only.

That is a great looking UG. I like the silver contrast.
I had a large 21 w/ micarta inlays and raindrop damascus that I sold off to get an XM-18. I really regret selling that knife and am looking to replace it. If I were you I would hold onto that UG. Just my humble opinion.

I just wanted to acknowledge the generosity, and kindness of a fellow BF member;

Lone Wolf made me a very kind offer via PM to temporarily trade me a Hinderer for my Sebenza, just so I could experience a Hinderer for a while myself.

I agreed to the offer, and we will be making the exchange this week.

I just wanted to let you all know what a gem, and what a valued member of this forum she is.

I am blown away by her kindness. It's people like her that make me feel honored to be a part of Blade Forums.

The honor is mine, as well. :thumbup:

Very very generous of her. You will have to keep us informed on your thoughts of the XM-18.

Thanks again.

Now where are those pictures you promised me?! :p :D

This is the knife you'll be getting, these pics are a few years old. I'll get more pics before i send it, but not tonight, dear, it's way past my bedtime. :p :p :p

BTW, this one has a few miles and a deployment under it's belt. :thumbup:

FreakinAwesom! A knife with history. I will take care of it and make sure it gets back to you in one piece.

I love knives with history. I still have the knives I used to deploy with. Unfortunately, they were all cheapos. Except for the Buck 110 that was my constant companion for 10 years in the military. It has my initials engraved in the bolster.

It saw a lot of legitimate hard use in many countries throughout Asia and Europe that many "I use ALL my knives" posers couldn't even fathom. It now belongs to my oldest son, and it rides with him in his truck.

Nice, slicer grind. Doesn't look any worse for the wear after being on deployment. Should make for a good comparison.
