Thermal Cycling carbon steel in foil

I'm sorry I should have answered this - I believe it's for storage and you NEED clean metal. That's probably why most of it is stainless.
I didn't think - so to HT stainless, you want stainless foil or chromium is going to attract the carbon from both the decarburization of the steel, and the amount of carbon in the mild steel wrap, it's basically going to forge weld itself to stainless. Now I'm not sure if that is necessarily a problem if you would surface grind it?

Ahhh my bad, normalized. Well. I'd try it? If I'm you, I'd just clean the paint, clean with acetone or ethanol/IPA, stick the mild steel in your furnace at 1150 and see what happens. If you are tight on cash - I may not stick a piece of metal in it at this point just to see if it actually forge welds
I didn t think on that , it is possible that they can weld together .I mean on mild steel sheath and stainless steel inside ? San mai 🤣

No , just one fold hammered with wooden hammer .When I cut to open it make little puuuuf , so it is good sealed 🤣
Of course I will make double fold on real steel . This days I'm just straightening the ball bearing steel

looks good man! (I'd tell you if it didn't :D), seriously. And the puff may have been continuous positive pressure leaking? I'm just playing devil's advocate here (I think the carbon from the mild steel is what im seeing the carbon deposits from) but yeah, I didn't know this was just "testing stuff" ;) I do now! and is that that fat carbon stuff? I've never used or worked with that but I do like it and the design of your knives. I really do!

whats funny is someone on here and me have been trying to do that intentionally. I have not tried it yet, but. rex 121 likes to forge weld to anything. so um. yeah actually Ill let you know if that works when I test it! :D kinda the opposite way around for san mai but hey. 3 layers! it doesn't say what order!

Insulting or Rude behavior

Just please be careful with heating paint or salts or really anything - most p100 masks will not protect you from these gases and no!, they won't kill you instantly but. Contrary to popular belief, I'm actually NOT an asshole and I do give a shit about your health so just know that heating paint is.. not good. I mean you're fine man, just please for me, don't make a habit of doing it ;) <3

Ok , I prepared one blank from ball bearing steel to try this ......:)
4.7mm 52100 steel 30 min. on 925 Celsius 2 x 15 min on 800 Celsius . It works ! Not 100 % clean as example but clean more then enough . Just light hand sand with 400 grit paper clean the steel . I think that if I double fold edges it would be clean , tomorrow i will try other one . I straightened lot of ball bearings this days . I can t forge in winter inside shop , so....
I burn paint on sheet metal but seems that paint was not problem , it expand again and I think that sheet expand on that temperature and get that shape ? I folded edges just one time because of dimension of sheet i have and here it is . Blank in sheath was laid on spine in oven . After HT i will surface ground it on 4.5 mm and make knife .............now I need to buy big table of 0.3mm sheet 🤣

32 m/s and 36 grit AO belt make some sparks and grind steel fast

Nice job! I was just in the process of suggesting you might contact Dr. Larrin Thomas of Knife Steel Nerds and seeing if he might have some alternative methods of preventing scale.

Thanks !
I know alternative methods , there are lot of topic abut that here on Bladeforum .Most of them I need to buy from US or EU and that is complicated to me ......On other side this will work and will work faster then any coat out there .Till I coat and wait to dry , I will make several pocket .Sheet is soft , ordinary scissors cut it like paper and it is easy bend and fold .But I will order through a friend ATP-641 to coat steel when I HT ....

Well , I know what happened !! It is not from one fold of edges of bag ! I pierce sheet on two places not small holes they are like letter V .
I didn't check it at all after bending the edges, straight into the furnace. Now I wanted to use it again for another smaller piece of steel and saw the letter V. Live and learn !

He came back right after being banned again. I'm going to have to close this thread so he stops posting in it. Sorry, Natlek. You can continue your photos and info on a new thread.
