So a lot of you guys talk about this manufacturer on here. Matter of time before I broke down and tried them out.

Better be worth it.

Op,

Definitely interested to hear your opinion after you've put them to use. Which two models are we looking at here?

They look nice, congrats!

Scandanavian Axe and Wildlife Hatchet.

We will see what happens. I was messing around with the axe the other night............eh.

Your American axes will be soooo jealous, they may have to come to live with me. ;-)

Are you sure you've got enough room for all those runaways? Better send some my way...I know, I'm so generous to open my home like that! :D

I can tell you that my Flint Edge that I have hates this new intruder. The Flint Edge calls this new scandanavian axe imposter "Sally".

;-))) You'll have to set up a segregation ward in your showcase for those interlopers ;-))))

That axe knows his stuff. Sally is actually a very descriptive word for a GB. Almost exactly what I would use. Maybe even go as far as to call them "Libby".

My opinion so far is, that as much as it pains me to say it, they are both top notch.

The sharpness is undenialble - and they remain sharp after hard use - the scandy I have had out a few times chopping things I probably shouldnt. The nice yellow handle is all dirty and darkened now, and the head has dirt and gunk on it.

I can see why the bush guys like them so. Light, sharp, good balance, etc.

There is still only one Flint Edge though.....

I just picked up a scandi like yours, haven't used it yet though going to wait til Lee Valley gets some more small forest axes in next week and handle both, then sell the loser.
(or keep them both :D)
I owned a sfa years ago, and the gb mini, lost the sfa at the airport (busted shipping container) and sold the mini for some reason. It was amazing how that mini could cut.
Your dirty handle should clean up with a rag and warm water, they are dipped in blo and then rubbed with bees wax.

What were you cutting? Try any green wood yet? I bet they are top notch carvers, probably limb and chop small stuff fine, which is why they are so popular among bushcrafters. I still maintain that a much cheaper and uglier old American axe is better for a firewood tool however. (And for what its worth, I did all my carving with a big fat plumb hatchet with a convex face for about 2 years before getting a side hatchet, and it worked fine :))

Don't worry........i used one to carve a bat out of a 6x 6.............................

A couple nice Swedes, Nice enough to make you mutter under your breath and wish the USA would catch back up,

But are Flint Edges something special or just your favorite, we have got an old one on Ma and Pa's farm, (well they are all old{duh}) I found in a bucket and put a handle on when I was a teenager to use to chop sprouts, Do I need to scarf this back up and hoard it away?
