so amongst a plethora of hand tools, here are the tools i have to get started on my little knife making venture. im making a big ol chopper and a vegetable cleaver first. i need to know what belts i should buy, grits, etc... i now i need a belt grinder, i just dont have one right now. i should be getting one at the shop soon, but im too impatient to wait, so im posting this to get any tips and advice on how to make work what ive got. ill post the cardboard outline of what im doing here in a little bit. theyve also got a HAAS milling machine and another smaller CNC, and some blacksmithing equipment as well with which they apparently make damascus with on the weekends. like i said, im really just trying to get started now, so if theres anything i could get thats cheap then i welcome that, otherwise im hoping to just tap into the plethora of knowledge and experience in here on how to make an imperfect situation doable

I started with a 1x30 from harbor freight for 50$ get the blue belts. I also use a dremel a lot. I saw that no one was really answering your post. Must be kinda the norm with new guys here. I have made a couple posts and got crickets responses. Anyway. Good luck with your project.

its kinda weird. ive posted maybe 6 or 7 threads before and get good answers every time. i honestly couldnt tell you why this got nothing. thank you though. there is a guy who privately messaged me and has been a TON of help. super cool guy

i do not think it is normal to ignore new guys :) the question about grit progression has been answered many times. there are stickies ( threads) at the top of this section answering the commonly asked questions. videos , and a search also. search " grit progression". there is a already grit progression thread about 7 threads below this one that was posted a few days ago. people may not have replied because the answers are already here.
