right, but you are using rechargeable 123's.

guess i should have been more specific.![]()
They use AA or AAA?

no.
they have some sort of dedicated battery. the entire light attaches to the charger. i haven't taken one apart.
So if it runs out you can't just put a new one in. That seems like it'd be a bother.
Ok, guys. So, you'd all say that the 6P/G2 (led) is a good entry level flashlight (best value) for a person who doesn't know too much about flashlights and probably won't buy any more.
Thanks.
Sufler, have you spent any time at Candle Power Forums? They have a lot of info on various lights. The Surefire 6P is the standard for 2-cell 123 powered lights. The customization and upgrade options are the best of any light out there. CPF has a sticky in their LED flashlight dedicated to the P60 drop-ins, which is the light assembly used in the 6P and 6Z, C2, G2 and M2. Its 10 pages long. For instance, there are drop-ins that have 500+ lumens output, battery run time is less than an hour, though. Here are a couple links to flashlight review sites:

Just wondering if any of you have experience with Surefire's G2 LED and G2 Nitrolon. Also, Sreamlight's equivalent model PolyTac LED Are these any good? Good power?
I'm looking for a good compact light with long battery life and high light output. The ones above seem to be in my price range and from what I've seen online... they seem very popular.
I own the first generation X1 and that's my only reference point when it comes to output. I get a little confused when one manufacturer uses watt, lumen, and candela designations for output. What is one watt equivalent to in lumens?
Thank you.
I had a G2 LED for 2 years. Stick with LED....your wallet will love you for the battery time. Also check out the quark lights! Amazing product for 10 bucks less. they are at www.4sevens.com Ive got a AA2 and a 123 and they are a great quality light with many features surefire will probably never make..... affordable that is.
I'll assume, then, from that comment that Fenix are overseas made? Surefire is US made?
Thank you.
yes, they can be pricey.
my problem with rechargeables is if they run dry in the field you are screwed. some guys have chargers in the shops, but while it is charging they are either without a light or use a backup. ironically, most officers who carry a backup have a simple surefire, like the g2 or 6p.
on more than one ocassion a fellow officer's inova ran dry during a night building search. ive loaned mine out a few times, as my pistol has a dedicated weapon light (surefire, of course).
my primary is a 123 celled light, and i have a backup that uses AA's. i have plenty of spare batteries in the trunk. much easier and more practical to replace batteries than to have to wait for a charge.
I've got the Surefire 6P LED and Fenix T1 (the current equivalent is the TK10). The Surefire is plenty bright and rock solid. Single output mode. Twist on or momentary on by pushing the tailcap button.
The Fenix has a forward clicky tailcap with a standard mode or turbo mode by turning the bezel. For most uses I like having the 2 modes. Surefire makes several lights with 2 modes, but they are in the $100 plus range.
The 6P is maybe $20 more than the TK10 on line. For a first quality flashlight I don't think you could go wrong with the Surefire.
BTW: My favorite light is a Fenix P1D, single CR123, twist on that fits in the watch pocket of my jeans. Max output is 180 Lumens.
Well, it almost sounds as if you like your Tk1 more than your 6P.![]()
I like the 2 output modes on the TK1, but I like being able to put a Malkoff drop-in in the 6P and almost triple the output. Plus, if I want a forward clicky tailcap for the 6P there are several to choose from. They're both nice lights. But if I could only have one, I think I'd still go with the 6P. Its a classic design. Kind of like the 1911A1 of CR123 flashlights.![]()
Which drop-in do you use?
