They call me Coach

Thank you all. We had some great practices this week and the kids concentration has improved to some degree as well as their passion after the first win. It was also a tough week with many absences due to a PTO meeting one night that lost us 35% of the team and couple kids will be out this weekend due to family travel so I have my fingers crossed for this weekend.

That is awesome T. Can't wait for the updates on the season. Coaching kids is amazing.

Thanks brother

looks like someone needs Orange and Blue Sheaths :)
Very cool buddy.

How bout a orange and blue water bottle sheath;):D

That is great that you had the chance to be his coach, he will never forget that and neither will you. GO TIGERS! :D

So true. I still remember my Dad coaching my baseball team:cool:

You are at a very cool place, T. I'm happy for you and have great admiration for you, to take the time and make the commitment--you deserve all good things this will bring. I know you'll enjoy it "to the hilt".

All Best to you and yours.

Will

Means the world my friend. Thank you:)

That's great Trevor! Hope you/they have a great season. I envoy your patience. My 8yo. started this year and the first few practices were the hardest things I've ever watched. But now it's pure joy.........Especially now that they're 5 and 0 and nobody has scored a point against them yet.:D
Go Tigers!

No need to rush though:D

Enjoy your freedom and all you can:cool:

Right on Coach! You sound like a natural, I'm sure the kids feed off your energy! Keep having fun while pushing the kids and the wins will keep rolling in! Coaching is a great way to get involved and give back and the best part is, it's a blast! I don't have any kids but coach my friend's kid's baseball team and I have coached special Olympics for 8 years, I don't know who gets more out of it-the kids or us! The Tigers are lucky to have a great coach!

Can't stop laughing about what you replied back to BEEF. :D

Hahahahaha ya that was a good one, Trevor

Im affraid to reply as I might have to lock my own thread;):D

and he does sharpen a lot of my knives:thumbup:

Im fired up!

Im ready for a drink:D

Well, we lost on Saturday but not due to trying. 8-18 was the final score so we are now 1-1.

The first half was miserable as it was 0-12. Im not sure if the kids just expected it to be like the week before, if it was the fact that we had over 1/3rd team out of 2 out of 3 practices Tuesday and Wednesday, the changes in the defense the head coach made by moving the LB's out wide in between corner and ends putting nearly everyone on the line except for one safety which gave no 2nd line of protection, or if it was combination of all above. Once they made it past the line it was a foot race.

Maybe it was just a better team that was better coached. I dont know.

Anyway, what was so awesome was how the kids responded in the 2nd half . They won the 2nd half 8-6. The only chance I got on the field with the defense I moved a couple around and 1st play we got a safety for 2pts and the ball back. The offense then drove down and nearly scored near end but we got stopped on the 2-3 yrd line.

The kids never quit and played hard when they were exhausted as most of the kids that showed up to each practice played both ways most of the game and it was 84 degrees and extremely humid for October.

Anyway, I was really proud of how the kids responded and made sure they all knew it after the game.

Now we have thunderstorms for today, and heavy rain through Wednesday expected so not sure if we will get to practice at all cause the rec center doesnt like having the fields torn up. Im also going to be gone for Wednesday practice this week and depending on how I feel Friday may or may not get back for Saturday morning cause its 12 hrs out, 12 hours waiting, and 12 hours back which took its toll last KC.

It was still fun, but losing is never as fun as winning.

Gotta love coaching the little fellas my best friend (R.I.P) was head coach of his boys football and baseball team, and I was his assistant coach, I agree it was a blast the kids love it, but just wait for that aggressive parent who thinks their kid isn't getting enough playing time lol...good times...We gave all the kids equal playing time regardless of skill or what so ever, our main goal wasn't winning or losing but just letting the kids have fun. OK that last line might of been a little bit of a stretch. Winning was important....

I agree totally that winning isnt the ultimate goal:thumbup:

but winning is still important to all that participate:D

I have seen and heard of those parents. We also make sure we get em all in, but were also clear this last week that the kids needed to be at the game hour early and if they rolled in 15 minutes prior to game time that they would lose their starting position as this was a real problem at the first game trying to get ready. They all still played a good bit cause its just what has to be done at this age group, but its still frustrating to have parents not care enough to show up late and not come to practice.

Its also amazing to hear some of the kids come in and be so honest this week when asked where they were and why not at practice. Answers ranged from family drama, I guess my mom's softball practice was more important, we wont be at the game cause we are going to a SC gamecocks game this weekend--this one took the cake I guess cause its only 1 1/2 to Columbia, and the follow up was well my parents will be tail gating:rolleyes:

I havent missed a practice and neither has my son even though one night this last week was PTO which was why practice had such a low turn out, but we were still there. I figured if teacher needed me bad enough she could send me a note home, but to my sons credit he is a great student. THe next night I had no explanation.

I can understand work as even some of the other coaches have missed along with parents or have been late cause of it. I will miss wednesdays practice and might even miss this one game due to KC, but this is my work. Although my son wont miss anything cause of it and will be there. I will still most likely leave Friday morning and drag myself home so Im at the game cause I signed up for it.

I just dont understand parents signing kids up for something and not being there when the whole team is depending on everyone. I know its in no way the kids fault as they cant come alone but all the coaches and team mom have offered to even pick kids up if there was a problem.

Coaching is cool but there is a lot of drama associated with it.

You gotta take the good with the bad. I had to deal with a lot of parents that made their life the priority. Actually had a parent not bring a kid to practice because they were going to a party that started an hour after practice let out. They said they had to have time to get ready. I picked him up from then on. I am glad that you guys are willing to go the extra mile for the kids.

Amen. Its life.

Please dont anyone think for a second any different and Im sure you will agree that the good far outweighs the bad.

I hated to even report, but like you said...you gotta take the good with the bad. Telling only of the triumps and not the tragedy of defeat would be unjust and fictional.

Just keeping it real. I spent a lot of time this weekend taking notes of games and defenses etc so that I can do the best job possible to teach the kids cause as a coach you cant help but feel responsible for the teams losses.

I will say my son picked it up as well as a lot of the others. Some amazing plays but in the end we still lost as a TEAM.

First couple plays he not only laid out the DT but then went on and laid out the LB too. I didnt get to see much of him this game or the last as its all kind of a blur as your watching the whole team. I did holler at him and tell him thats the way to block. Then the next play he got called for un-sportmans like conduct and got a 15 yrd penalty for hitting after the whistle. I did think it was a little harsh considering he didnt come in and hit some defenseless player. He was just so fired up cause they moved a bigger kid over in front of him and the two were still mutually engaged and had no idea what was happening around em. I was happy to see him getting a little more aggressive to tell the truth. He's a great blocker, but his aggression needs to increase to be as good on defense.

Overall it was a great day and hopefully the taste of defeat didnt sit well with them anymore than it did with me:thumbup:

We shall see....
