Gun safes are ugly.
Gun safes advertise the fact that you have guns.
All safes can be cracked.
In the 18th century, high end furniture often contained secret compartments with the concept of: if they can't find it, they can't steal it. Thus, I have designed and built what is possibly the coolest safe in the world. Ideal for firearms, jewelry, documents, and valuables, this is a functional piece of hand crafted furniture that displays your books, photos, and knick-knacks, and doubles to protect that which needs protecting. The unit in the video is solid cherry and hardwood cherry plywood, but this is available in the wood or finish of your choice. Size and storage options are customizable. Price range is $3-4000 depending on options.

I have worked out a semi flat-pack version that would require minimal assembly. The unit would be shipped in 5 main sections that would need to be bolted together and attach the back. Easier than the typical DIY bookcases because all of the main work is already done. Shipping costs will vary based on location. It looks like $250-$450 being more expensive as you get further away from New Hampshire.

I welcome your feedback.
Thanks!
Matt

Wow! That is absolutely incredible. Your skills are incredible with what you have created.

Fantastic work! And if it did not involve chartering a 747 I would have one immediately!!:)

I have seen work like that before. Nice job. I have the book here called ''How to Hide Almost Anything" By David Krotz, 1975. He made an extensive living doing custom work inside homes. When he started, he lived in New York and he was broken into repeatedly and had no job. I keep it protected on my bookshelf...his ideas are as astounding as your bookcase there. Nice work.

Really cool. Only downside I see relative to a safe is once you've shown your family members how cool your hideaway system is, they can open it up themselves or inadvertently mention it to others, and there being no key lock as far as I can tell, anyone who knows the secret can get to everything. Hard to keep something that cool to oneself and not show it off. Now your family members/friends may be trustworthy you say, but never underestimate a teenage son showing off to his friends or exploring for himself, or the offbeat comments of a wife to people visiting the home. I guess ideally this thing would also have a heavy key lock hidden somewhere to unlock to first switch. You might have that already, but I didn't see it, just saw a hidden switch that can be activated with the finger. People may know there's a safe, but it's still darn hard to pick one, and with easy wireless cameras that feed direct to smartphone apps, you can put a motion detecting camera on the safe when out of town to alert authorities to any movement

it would be nice if it had a part where if someone tries to pry it open, it dispenses tear gas.

or you know, hold more guns.

Freaking sweet! I want a gun safe at some point, and I also collect books so this thing may be in my future. Little high dollar, but it total looks worth the money.

That is the nicest execution of this style of hideaway furniture. I have some sort of negative space hideaway in almost all of my wooden cases. The side of my nitestand is packed with a silenced HK USP 45T and high end flashlight and emergency communications. I have it over secured due to the class 3.
not a safe replacement, but a perfect system to accompany your big heavy steel!
Well done :)
