They have more guts than me . Literally !

I though I would share my opposum recipe with everyone:
1 possum
1 cedar board
salt & pepper to taste.

Salt and pepper the cleaned possum and nail to board.
Place board into the ground near a low fire and allow to cook for about 1-1/2 hours. Remove possum from the board, throw away possum and eat the board, yuuuuummmmmmm!!!

I know feeding animals to herbivores can lead to problems . What about feeding nutria to predators ? No don,t go and let a nutria predator loose thats how they got the problem in the first place ! L:O:L

Would it be a good idea to market them as Zoo food or some such idea .
I can just hear the male lion telling his pride .
"It tastes just like chicken !" L:O:L

ROTFLMAO!!! Rob's evil side is dang intertaining.

actual beaver is supposed to be excellent to eat, especially their tails - filleted and tender... also porcupines aren't supposed to be terrible...

best cajun food evah is anything made with "trash food"... catfish atchafalaya. boy hardy! dems good eatin'.

my dad grew up eating squirrels. many many many. me? not allowed a gun, but i caught more catfish and crawdaddies than you could shake a stick at. my dad ALSO ate them ;P apparently cooking them was more work than catching them, so he claimed his share. when i professed not needing his help cooking either, well, that was another fight ;)

snake. snakes i'll eat. fresh water eels i won't. uncles will though. oh my yes, did they enjoy lake eel. i'd eat the perch and sunfishes till the sun did rise. good times.

I tried some snake meat once but didn't care for it as there were several bones in it.

This thread reminds me of the squirrel brains that Uncle Bill and his family used to eat during the Great Depression.

Bladite and everyone else of a squirrely mind ? I guess the tree rats are considered protected up here . We are not allowed to hunt or trap the delightful creatures . There is one steadily eating holes in our archery clubhouse . I do think that one has about had his day . I would like to try them as I have heard pan fried is supposed to be great . Interestingly enough the larger varieties have a very tough hide as far as linear pull is concerned . In other words they make great bow strings . This is a neat thread .

Squirrel hunting is how I cut my teeth. Moved to ducks and dove from squirrel. Then finally to deer (by far the most boring). I can't imagine not being able to take my son (someday) squirrel hunting. Thats how my grandad tought me to walk quietly in the woods. Etc. Plus they are so dang tasty. Yummmmmmm.

I also grew up hunting sguirrels in Illinois and attest to the fact that they are very tasty pan fried. I also believe that Super Glue is a direct desendant from the stuff that holds their skin on.

Kevin, as it is eating a whole in your archery club house I think the poetic way to get it would be to have the entire club lie in wait with arrows drawn and let the little bugger have it. I've never hunted squirrels per se I spent alot of time when I was younger trapping them: started at age 4 with a cardboard box held up by a stick with a string tied to it (didnt work, I think my parents showed me how to do it like that becuase I would require me to wait on the other end of the string for long periods of time) when I got a bit older I learned a figure 4 deadfall works quite nicely.

Squirrel hunters are nuts , or at least must smell like them ! L:O:L
Sounds like we,ll have to get together one day and have a cook-off .
I,m wondering if the bayous have any squirrels ? There are a couple more than usual down at the range . To me that doesn,t speak well for the fox population . Usually There are more fox sightings than squirrel sightings . It must be a very lean meat unless just before winter ?
