My truck got robbed last night. No longer am I prepared. Now I've got to start from scratch. I feel violated.

Got my man bag too, and that had all the good flashlights in it.:grumpy:

I am truly sorry to hear that. Some homeowners and auto insurance covers theft but... I know what you mean about feeling violated. But you will replace it all. And maybe be a bit more inconspicuous about how and where you stash it? And remember not to tell "friends" you have it stashed in your truck? Trucks are hard places to conceal things. Just takes a bit of creativity.

On the bright side, now you get to rethink your choices of equipment from scratch. Duplicate what worked well for you and replace the rest with different things. And get sneaky about how you stash it!

PS- I hate thieves with a passion!

Don't bother telling the police about it, or if you do, don't count on them doing anything about it. A few years ago when I was in college my roommates truck got broken in to and the police came out and brushed for finger prints, but they only did that because there had been a string of break-ins on our street. The officer told us that they don't have the time or manpower to go out and dust for prints and take reports on all of the break-in calls they get, so unless there is a string of them in one area, you won't have much of a chance of getting an officer to come out. Of course this was in Texas, I have no idea how it works in other areas.

Hey I'm real sorry to hear that bro, what a world we now live in eh !!!!

Man that sucks! That is my pet peeve. If I ever catch someone steeling stuff, whether it's mine or not, the police will not be involved, they will just get the beating of there life, and I will take everything they have and leave them there naked and in pain. Both my brother and brother in law have had stuff stolen from there vehicles, my brothers stuff was stolen in my apartment parking lot while he was visiting for only a few hours. Boy, if I could get my hands on those responsible...
No mercy for those kinda people, they deserve to be shot.
::rant off::

ohhh man FB :(

be sure to check ebay & local classifieds (IE craigslist)...
you never know... you may find those fkrs

i hope you do

bummer andy....:thumbdn::mad: i would be soooooo mad....

that is the second time that's happend to you right....

I'd probably go nuts if someone stole my stuff. I have a hard time sleeping at night knowing my BK7 is in another room, let alone someone elses hands.

yeah, at least you can have the fun of building yourself a new rig. losing good gear majorly blows, though. may the lawless creep fall on the fine knife he stole. face first.

Brother Fiddleback, I am truly sorry some scum of the earth had his way with you. I, like Lennie Bruce, believe that everybody pays their dues, so take comfort in the fact, this POS will as well.

As far as "No longer am I prepared", not quite true. They didn't take your knowledge, which in the final analysis, is the more important of the two, as Codger is wont to say. They just made it a little more difficult. When they can relieve you of what you know, you will hear a fat lady singing.

You know Doc, I was resisting mentioning that. But it does point to my personal mantra: Anything you can own can be lost, stolen or broken. Knowledge is yours to keep. Things do not replace knowledge just augment it.

I thought that would bring you out of the shadows. :D

Vehicle breakins in my city are an ongoing issue,

Things I have learned over the years

-never run an aftermarket high end stereo
-leave the glove box visibly open and empty
-leave ashtray open and empty
-never leave anything visible on the seats or in the back
-never leave anything in the vehicle overnight you cant afford to lose
-I have mixed feelings about car alarms, they go off so bloody often people ignore
or get so pissed off they bootfuck the vehicle
-best results are being lowprofile with no scumbag attractant in or on the vehicle

One thing I have had good luck with in my extra cab ranger 4x4 to store basic tools/tow strap/bungees etc is behind the driver seats two Ikea locking metal medicine cabinets ( they fit perfectly ) that I upholstered over with black outdoor carpet, from outside you cant tell they are there, and from inside they ended up looking like part of the truck, odds are they will get missed, cheap under $50 solution.

The aluminum locking boxes for the truck box just seem to be like throwing a juicy steak out in the serrengheti, doesnt take long for the vultures to start picking at the locks, given time they will get in.

Every vehicle break in has cost about $100 insurance deductible, and about 12 hours of time ( filing police report, call to insurance, trip to insurance assesor, call to glass or body shop , trip to said shop , and hope you get a courtesy vehicle for the day)
Its not the bucks that bugs me so much as my time wasted. Personally up here in Canada I would like to see a mandatory rattan caning , minimum ten lashes for any property crimes , Ahhh we can only dream.

Maybe part of the answer is to leave only functional equipment in your vehicle - the Moras, Tramontinas, Mini Mags, etc., so that if you get ripped off, there is not a great money loss, but if you are in a situation where you need the gear, everything there can do the job. (I keep a small Linders in my van). Keep the pretty stuff in the house and only take it when you're going bush bummin' or the like.
