They're At It Again

I have no idea. Businessmen like to put them in their office to scare their employees. I don't do it for a living, though. I only have one.

Could be a possible solution for those who suffer from "road rage." Just blow the offending car and driver to bits with an AT4 and be done with it.

I've never seen an AT4. I'm an old tin can sailor. Our ship, commissioned in 1939 and a WWII survivor, still had 40mm guns when I went aboard in 1952.

Gee, Bill; and here I thought the anti-tank weapon you were referring to was that 38-inch monster that Yangdu (sp?) was holding in several of your earlier posts. Sorta like a giant can opener.

If my garbage-brain for trivia is correct, the AT-4 is essentially a one-shot, disposable "bazooka", based on the Swedish 84mm "Carl Gustaf" recoiless rifle. It replaced the Vietnam era 71mm LAW rocket, which was featured in the 3rd "Dirty Harry" movie. The title escapes me, but it co-starred Tyne Daly, and has a climactic shoot-out on Alcatraz Island.

Hi Bruce:

I remember the movie -- Tyne Daly, the gal cop, dies a hero. Dirty Harry blows away the watch tower with his bazooka.

The 38 incher is overkill for just about anything except maybe a tank as you suggested and your spelling is correct.

I am a trivia lover so thanks.

Yeah, and Craig is only selling the launcher. Man, what a rip-off. Talk about caveat emptor! I was hoping to take out that noisy Dodge of my neighbour's once and for all, and all I get is a stinkin' tube. Thanks for nothing, Craig!

Hey Bill, what ship?

Hey! Uncle Sam!

(_!_) Nyah nyah nyah!

Refund! You lose! :)

The USS Warrington DD-843, 2250 class. When I served aboard the Warrington the Maddox was our sister ship and I guess every Nam vet knows about the Maddox.

Years ago somebody sent me a news clip stating that the Warrington had suffered damage and casualties, 11 dead as I recall, during the Nam conflict. She was commissioned in 1939, the third Warrington. First two had gone down in storms at sea so the old salts told me. During hurricanes it was not an easy ride.

I come from a Navy family. My dad was aboard USS Little Rock (CLG-4) and had an absolutely harrowing tour of duty during Viet Nam...in the Med. You know, the sun, the wine, the Italian women.

The Rock was a WWII Cleveland class light cruiser which they refitted for the Talos missile. Dad lost track of what happened to her once he left the navy, and we both just figured she was razorblades and beer cans by now, so imagine my surprise a few years ago when I came across this:

http://www.usslittlerock.org

Go figure. Alive and well in (whiskey tango foxtrot, over) Buffalo, New York? Uhm...okay. So I tried to get dad to drive to Buffalo without giving him the reason why...but you guys all had dads. How would they have reacted to your plan to drive 7 hours for 'a surprise.'

Ah well, he did get to see his old ship again, so it worked out.

I don;t suppose the Warrington was so lucky? BTW, was she part of Operation Sea Dragon? Is that how she took damage?

And what does this have to do with Khukuris? I have no idea.

Uncle Bill, talking about ships, wonder if you know about Khukuris at sea!

Way back when, there was the HMIS Gurkha, which was sunk in the Indian Ocean (torpedoed, I think). If I'm not mistaken, I think there was an HMIS Kukri too which suffered the same fate. Then, in the 1971 Indo-Pak War, the INS Khukri, a frigate, was torpedoed by a Pakistani sub off the western coast of India. The Captain, a brave soul by all accounts, saw to the evacuation of all personnel and was last seen going down with his ship.

August 1989 saw the commissioning of another INS Khukri, this time a corvette. Dad was there, along with a contingent of Gurkhas to celebrate "their" ship being put to sea. At present there are five other corvettes of the Khukri class, most, if not all named after bladed weapons of the Indian sudcontinent - the Khutar, Kirpan, Khanjar, Kora and Kirch.

Hope this Khukuri has better luck than its predecessors! Check out its details as well as a picture in:

Like your Dad i lost track of the Warrington after I left the Navy. When I lived in San Diego I'd check the numbers on the destroyers in the bay to see if I could spot 843 and never did. Have no idea what the Warrington was doing lurking off the coast of Nam. When I was aboard she was Atlantic Fleet with home port in Newport, RI. I'd guess she's probably beer cans and razorblades as you mentioned.

And, Newphew, thanks for coming up with an original piece of info. I didn't know there were khukuris at sea! They will run out of "K's" if they are not careful.

I heard of a rich yacht owner hiring four former Gurkhas as security people for his craft. He was having the boat repainted and varnished somewhere in Florida. The guy painting the boat called me and ordered a khukuri. He told me he had greatly admired the khukuris that the Gurkhas carried on board and asked them where he could buy one. They sent him to me. I have often wondered if there was one or more among them I might have known personally.

My wife's dad Roy Jones was one day out of Pearl when it happened. He served on the California, but mostly on the smaller ships. He had two ships sunk from under him. My wife doesn't remember any other ships as he retired Valentines Day 1946, as a Chief, and she wasn't even born til '48.

Further info from wife: Father was Roy Randolph aka "Railroad" (RR) Jones, and a chief machinist mate to 6 mos. before discharge, when made a chief, shore patrol. He died half a year before I met my wife.

My early LAW reads:Rocket HE 66MM ANTITANK M72A2 W/COUPLER/LIMITED LIGHT SIGHT.It is metal,not fiber.
Everyone should have a LAW and Stinger, just in case.Do you really want the Masters, the Martyrs, and the spectators to run your life?

And here I was feeling a little out on the edge for keeping a Thompson and an Uzi.

I don`t recall that NV. minds subguns. The Uzi,you can get anywhere, the Tommy is getting rare.It is a first generation with machined parts. You just need Mike Dillion to keep it fed.He has a quad .50 cal.

Ghost, my guns only go bang once every time I pull the trigger. Didn't want ATF getting too interested in me, they might start asking what else I had. It's all legal, but not politically correct. I was very relieved when the proposed law to make anyone who owned more than ( was it 20 or 50 - ahh, doesn't make any difference to me ) X number of guns register as an arsenal got shot down.

Hey Bill - better watch out or you'll have Ghost spouting seditious things like the Constitution was written to protect the people from the government, or that the Constitution actually means what it says. Not politically correct.

Right, Rusty! We must be cautious when we start saying things like the Constitution really means what it says! This shows what dinosaurs you, Ghostsix and I really are.

uncle Bill

Of course you'd never want to bring up the time our wonderful government experts decided to build an "All Weather" highway between San Francisco and Salt Lake City. One that could be kept open no matter what the weather, and would never have to be closed in the worst blizzard.

And then they put the route along the Donner Party's trail.

The Ghost stands for The Constitution. It is not what is perverted.Speaking of ships,Chester Nimitze ran two aground before WW11.The zero defect mentality was not in place then.

Reminds me of the old saying about pilots, ghostsix, there are only two kinds: Those who have langed gear up and those who will.
