I use to carry around 1/4" thick blades all the time during my wilderness treks, I have since switched to thinner ones for better cutting abitity, I'm very glad I did.
Thickness is not as much a decider of cutting ability as Geometry is. As I mentioned above, if I have a wide blade that is thicker than your thinner not as wide blade, my knife may actually have better cutting geometry than yours.
