Okay, I can understand and appreciate that. Thanks! :)

-Nick-

A prof I had in college once told us that the difference between young and old people on this earth is that old people always ask, "Why?" and the young always aks, "Why not?" I'm only 27...sheesh :(

Anyone that does stock removal of a half an inch thick piece of steel deserves respect!
Or a straight jacket.

I'm currently grinding away at 5/16th inch thick 9260 carbon steel, and I'm starting to bark at the flies, and howl at the moon--- during the day.

It's not funny.

Oh BTW, I like them a lot, Jurgen!

crazy question, cause im pretty sure i know the answer by way of comparitive size - but that is 37cm, not 37 inches right?

37cm = 14 9/16 in
37 in = 94cm

cause if those things are 37 inches - my hats off to you good sir :eek: (still is even at 14", but 37... that would be insanity)

here are some other ones, i showedand sold ast year in orlando:-))

you gotta try it at least once :rolleyes: :D once i get my forge up i'll make at least 1 full 3/4" thick knife, as well as at least a few 1/2"+ khukuries. this one has a tapered tang that starts at 1/4" at the pommel and works up to around 3/4" thick near where the end of the tip taper will be. once i have the other side of what this came from hammered flat, i'll have one that will end at 7/8" near the tip.

thick is fun :D

i doubt that the end product of this thing is going to be anywhere near the refinment or style of shantz work though. i just freehanded the outline on the steel, but we'll see... you dont see enough 1/2" thick plus stuff out there these days...

@ seth,
wow - that will be a bowie:-))))))))))

how long do you grind at this piece???

--did you have a look in my galerie?

thats what blew me away :D

to see so many designs, all of them refined and with a sense of style from any maker is amazing. there are knives in your gallery that i havent seen anywhere else, and again, all with a sense of style.

i havent even started grinding on this one yet, i forged the handle into a downward curve today at school (otherwise it would have been straight as shown in the picture, wich isnt what i initially wanted). the cutting (done with a 4" hand grinder with a cutting wheel) portion so far has taken about an hour and a half.

i fully expect to grind on this thing 20 hours before its finished (possibly a lot longer then that :( )

but it will be worth it :D :D - i'll be the only kid on the block with a 1/4"-3/4"- fully tapered knife...

Schanz Jeurgen;

My initial reaction was; "Yes, that is thick", and then; "Why ?"....
After reading your response to the same question, I commend you, as I very much appreciate originality, uniqueness, and innovation, in that I admire Knifemakers whom create something that is different and which keeps the knife scene progressing.

They seem to me to be more of a novelty piece, in that you've just gotta have at least one, to show and stun people with the sheer size of such a monster.

It's more of a club, or a brick, than a knife. Overall it is unique, and I do like that. :D

i think its time to made a 1" version ... but which name should i take for a piece like that . maybe monstermother ??
:D :D :D

today i sold the last of the pieces i´d in stock..
next week i will be order some new steel for some new big things - the 1" is in the moment a little to much.... but i will go on with 20mm :D :D :D :D

Those are absolutely gorgeous! I would buy one of each model this minute if I had the cash! I love thick knives, do you have any other photos we could see pleaseeeee :D ?
