Hey guys, I was wondering if anybody has tested using a knife with a wave feature while wearing a thigh holster for a pistol? I think it might get in the way preventing to wave feature to deploy properly? I haven't tried it and as I just recently got a wave deploying knife (ZT 0620). SO I wanted to know if anybody has experience with this.

If you can get the knife out of your pocket, you can make the wave feature work. Even if you can't hook it on the back corner of your pocket like most people would, what you CAN do is just slightly rotate the knife (counter clockwise) as you pull it out to make the wave engage the edge of your pocket. In this way, it will work even on the front edge of your pocket, not just the back corner. I hope this makes sense.

I pocket carry front right, so it completely negates any practical application of a wave. My advice would be to keep your holster where you like it and adjust other gear as needed. You could swap the clip and deploy the knife with your off hand.

Depends on the pants, the holster, how you wear it. Why not just try it?

Carry your waved knife weak side. It may be put into weapon retention use later

What do you mean by "It may be put into weapon retention use later"?

Someone grabs your sidearm? You want to hold that gun with your right hand to prevent it being used on you. With your left hand, forward wave into reverse grip and use violence of action to make sure that gun stays holstered.

Make sense?

I'm an infantryman with combat experience. Trust me.

So if someone is trying to get your sidearm, you have a weapon you can use with your off hand to convince them otherwise

Oh CM beat me to it

I thought you were in the Canadian army or something, weapon retention should be something a soldier ought to know about. As CM pointed out, swap the clip to the scale side and wave forward with your off hand to get the person attempting to take your side arm to back the hell off so you can make use of YOUR firearm. I suppose waving it back with the offhand is fine but I wave forward. To each their own.

Man if you are rocking a thigh holster no way you'll ever need a knife.

But seriously, it depends on your holster, your clothes and the way you wear them. Some of those holsters have two attachment points and might leave the pocket open in the middle. Others have a single thick strap, and if it's covering your pocket, clearly your "wave deployment" (i feel silly saying that) won't work. You are just going to have to put on your pants and your holster and try it out.

For that it's worth I have been carrying a pistol most every day for more than a decade and have never had to get it out super fast due to anything attacker/bad guy/enemy related. My knife and gun work pretty independently of each other save for the few times I'm snapping pics of my new Spyderco or something.
Best of luck.
