I am searching for a maker who is comfortable working with and heat treating thin 3v stock! .070 to be exact.
It is for an ultralight backpacking knife I am dreaming of and the details will be pretty specific. I would send the material along with a wood/plastic template of exactly what I would like. I would like 2 made, one with handles fixed and the other a simpler version for me to test it's capabilities and find the limitations of such a blade in a more controlled manner. I understand when going thin and wanting to use it for fire prep and possible batoning, things could go wrong. I am prepared for the lose and not looking for a lifetime warranty on such a blade. I have not finished any such design yet and may be putting the cart before the horse but I would like to find a maker who is interested before I start making the prototype. The overall goal of the build is a very lightweight blade that should hopefully withstand some abuse. Maybe 3v is not the right steel? I am open to conversations of all aspects of the knife and ideas and ways to accomplish the lightweight goal with strength.
I have a few knives that come really close but looking to really push the boundaries and see what's possible. I may end up wanting another made in thicker stock after testing.
Feel free to pm me or email me rock golfer at g mail . Com.
Thanks,
Jeff
