Thin fixed blade?

The now out of production AG Russell DeerHunter was .06in thick FFG (4in blade), which sounds exactly like what you'd want. They do make the bird and trout and "hunters scalpel" versions with are the same, but with 3 1/8in and 2in or so blades.

Ben from Baryonxknifeco had some FFG moras in stock for a while, you might check there and see if he still stocks them. If not, I'm sure he can grind one down for you. Thats probably the cheapest/best option at this point.

Thanks for the feedback folks.
I have a Mora but really don't like scandi knives.

The AG Russell DeerHunter sounds perfect...and of course they don't offer it anymore.
Looks like I might have to check out Dogwood customs.

If you're ok with carbon steels, Joe Calton (Calton Cutlery) is making some really nice looking stuff for reasonable prices. He is a knifemaker here, so you can find his stuff in the exchange or on his website.

The Moras that ben regrinds are not scandi ground anymore. They are FFG. He only has one in stock right now (which is a HD, which will have a thicker spine, but he does tend to put new ones up pretty frequently). You might email/call/ask him to see if he will do a thinner stock mora for you. His username here is 42blades IIRC (and he's an sponsored dealer, so its fine to link it here).

The smaller versions of the AGRussell Deer hunter are still available, and run ~$30 IIRC. The larger of the two remaining blades is called the Bird and Trout, but I just checked and it has a 3 1/16in blade length, and is just under 7in overall, so it will be a fairly small knife (not a palm filling handle anyway).

And yeah, I missed out on the Deerhunters too :(.

Green Rivers!

Sheep Skinner I handled in black micarta and modded a bit from a blank... This is one of my favorite blades ever... The spine is close to 1/8" BUT it is ground supremely thin which makes it a phenomenal cutter. The neat thing about buying one to put your own scales on is you can personalize it with whatever material, and contour it to your hand. Pretty easy too, and can be done really cheap.

Here is a rescued GR Belt knife with original handles. Was pretty rough when I got it... Its closer to 3/32" and has a full but slight taper from handle to tip. Another awesome cutter.

These seem to hold an edge better than the Old Hicks, and they are geared more towards frontier styled woods knives instead of kitchen knives. The blanks can be had really cheap. Also they will cut just as good into wood as a Mora, but they are not scandi. Also they can be bought in kits if you dont have an opinion on handle material. Finished blades can be found but where is the fun in that! Finding a vintage and restoring or modifying your own is very rewarding.

Check out Jantz Supply www.knifemaking.com or http://www.knifemaking.com/category-s/47.htm?searching=Y&sort=13&cat=47&show=50&page=1

They have the Green Rivers in kits, or standalone so you can pic out your own handle material. They also have corresponding unfinished sheaths to go along with them!

RX-79G, i believe it is 1/8 thick, and yes I have battoned with it, nothing big, but it works in a pinch. And you have to love Scandi ground blades... japanese water stones do wonders on them!

The Spyderco Mules are less than 1/8th at the spine, with full flat grind and full distal taper. You can get your choice of many excellent steels, handles and sheaths. They are probably the most under-rated users on the forum.
