Thin modern suggestions

Look for a Spyderco Adventura . The big auction site is probably the only place they can be found. Check out the vids on u-tube too.

Falcon in different steel? I never put much thought to it.

Granted AUS8 isn't a supersteel by any stretch. But with the tasks that this knife will perform, it's just fine. Open mail, open boxes, cut IP's off your shirt cuff... these aren't tasks that are going to quickly dull a knife of this size.

And when it does need sharpening, a couple swipes on the Spyderco double-stuff puts it back to where it needs to be.

I love the Al Mar UltraLights. Would I like them more in a different steel choice? Nope. It's the design and execution that keeps me interested.
Really good point! I'm going to have to keep that in mind. NY own favorite steels don't keep an edge that much longer in the grand scheme of things go either!

Agreed, cchu518.

I'm by no means knocking your desire of better materials. Our hobby offers us the beauty of numerous designs in equally numerous materials. Being able to pick your favorites in each category is a wonderful thing we are offered, and by all means bruddah, you exercise your options in a manner that gets you the biggest grin.

My advice kinda goes like this: Don't miss out on a great knife just because it isn't offered in a certain material. Sometimes the design is what makes the piece enjoyable, special, and suitable for its purpose.

Great advice! My hero, knife Guru Mr. Joe Talmadge, Master Knife Maker, posted a great article about knife steel and design that may be of some interest.

Thank you for that link, GatorFlash1 ! I am going to notch that into my "favorites" tab for sure.

That Joe Talmadge, he's a gift that keeps on giving!

Alias II just came in really digging the slimness of it. Will have to check out an Al Mar possibly.

Boker urban trapper and a bm 940/943.

Benchmade 531 is roughly the size of a Skyline, and weighs in at 2.1 oz.

My only gripe is that the cool looking thumb stud has put a hole in every pair of pants I own. Lol.

Second recommendation for the Benchmade 530 or 531.

The 530 handle sounds kinda hollow, but the 531 has a different handle design, which is nicer.
Either way, they're both very slim and I recommend them both.

I can't believe it took this long for someone to mention the Böker Urban Trapper. Yeesh.

BladeHQ link here

VG-10 Ti Framelock Bearing flipper with a 3.5" blade and a total weight of 1.78oz. Deep carry clip, good looks, polished blade, very high flat grind (but not FFG). It's only .32" thick as well. Super thin and light. Knifecenter has a exclusive version for $80 in a blackwash, as well. The regular version can be found for 65ish on the bay pretty regularly.

The Boker Plus Titan Drop is thin. The Decade Edition comes with VG-10 steel and carbon fiber scales, and both are reasonably priced.

If you can do without one-handed opening (I know you specified modern), the AG Russell titanium lockbacks are ultra thin and made in 3" and 3.5" blade lengths.

While not a traditional, I have found the Spyderco Double Bevel to be a fine thin bladed gentleman's carry. Don't discount VG10.

Boker Urban Trapper in the exchange for $50, Act Fast!
because I want it

Thanks I actually just sold my air three weeks ago to spsketch who tapped it for a wire clip! He might be putting it up for sale. For edc I usually go with a traditional and am looking to pair it up with a thin modern folder maybe 2.5" to 3.2" blade length.

The air is a great knife but I just prefer the slimness of a half whittler that gives me the same blade size in a compact package.

My current rotation of slim edc's purposely left Spyderco's out as I favor them too much for edc!

For slim knives, what about the solo alox SAKs you can find the all serrated "bread" knife, a standard drop point and a sheepsfoot is available as well. Most can be had for under $10 each.

Honestly, it is hard to go wrong with the Spydie Delica and it is one that I really like. I like the Kabar Dozier also. I am generally not a huge fan of the thumb studs as they do rub holes in the pocket. If there was anything I would change on Vic SAKs, I'd get rid of the little key chain attachment nub that also wears holes in the pocket.

I generally want "slim" in my second knife as I almost always have a large 111 mm SAK in my pocket.

Brous bionic . Sweet little knife basically no wait to it flips great . My only issue with it aluminum handles .
