Not much to add to the title. :) Does anybody know of a source for thin pieces of stabilized hardwoods? I'm looking for 1/8" or 3/16" thickness. Found lots of dealers but everything is either 3/8" or in blocks. Wish I had a planer...

I just sand mine down with the belt grinder. The other option is to saw a 3/8" in half (carefully!!!) with a coping saw, scroll saw or a thin blade on a band saw. They won't be perfectly flat, you'll have to flatten them on a piece of granite or similiar.

good band saw with a fence you can rip some thicker pieces.

Okay, sounds like my best option then--guess I'll take a 3/8" piece, draw a line a little to one side of center and then work in to 3/16" on a disc.

Thanks much :)

You may want to contact the seller also to see if they'd slice it for you also.

I find that a jewelers saw with an agressive blade to work very well.
It is way faster than you would expect. You'll go trough blackwood as if it were cheese.

If you got a milling machine, you can get a small circular saw blade and put it in a slitting saw arbor, clamp the wood in a vice and make very acurrate horizontal cuts. A bit messy though. I can get pieces as thin as 2mm using this method and you can get more handles for each piece of wood

Appreciate the suggestions, guys--I've got some wood pieces on the way, and bought a little extra in case the first thing I try doesn't work out. Nice to have some backup ideas.

Thanks a bunch
