I'm looking for a very thin folder for bottom of pocket carry. Right now, I fill this niche with an aluminum-handled Benchmade 960. My price range is $200-500. Any great ideas?

Email Dan from Plaza Cutlery and get on the list for the new Ken Onion Ripple mid-tech. www.onionknives.com. It's guessed to go for around 350$. I don't think you'll find something thinner of that quality.

What type of knife do you want? Lockback, slipjoint, framelock? You need to narrow down your search or you'll get an overly broad range of responses.

Benchmade shoki. Very thin and light, but doesn't have a very sturdy lock (nak-lok). If not for hard use then a great knife.

Try a Spyderco G10 Police. Here is mine that has been waved and double edged.

It is! Gotta be careful waving this thing. I named it "Something Nasty" and it lives up to the name. It is meant to be a "disposable weapon" much like the Civilian. If it breaks in somebody's rib cage, it has served its purpose. :barf:

I've been very happy with a Boker Plus Trance clipped on my pocket. You can easily remove the clip. It's very thin. The blade is AUS-8 so it will keep a reasonable edge. And you can buy a lot of them for your budget. :)

I don't have any experience with knives in that more exalted price category, but I've been very pleased with my Trance.

Hope that helps,
Steve

The Benchmade 530 is super thin although when I use mine it also always feels like I might snap it in half (though it never has) I might also suggest any spydercos with a stainless steel handle. I have a stainless delica that fits very nicely in my front pocket without the clip and presents a very low profile.

Ever think about the old Japanese 'Cat' style folders? (NOT the one that is called "Cat" in English language catalogs... but of the same style.) Just a fantastic piece of Damascas steel for a blade, wrapped inside thin fold of steel for a handle. Nothing much more than a rivet for a pivot. All the money goes into the blade. I see these in all the better Japanese knife shops and drool over them! As slim as the blade itself, light weight, hand forged by Japanese bladesmiths for generations. Most in the $200-$800 USD price range.

I've gotta very nice Klotzli Sarra that is for sale at good price here that might fit your bill. It's within .1 oz. of the BM 960 and fairly thin.

Here's the web page for it at AG Russell.

Look at the "For Sale Forum" if interested.

+1 on the U2.

The discontinued Benchmade 350 is nice too especially if you take off the pocket clip.
