Thin, strong blade?

With the side windows, the edge or near the edge of the tempered glass will be the weakest area. The center will be the toughest to break and is usually 4 times stronger than regular glass (non-tempered). A spring loaded punch will pop the glass in a heart beat. If it’s true the glass will be mandated to be laminated, we are screwed.
Laminated glass can be shattered but has a resin that separates multiple layers of glass that is not designed to separate or bust apart.

Thanks for the heads up on the laminated glass in side windows. I just did some reading. Not sure I agree. But they never ask me anyway.

As for your original question, when I think of prying with a knife, I think oyster knife. Plenty of them around. Spend as much or little as you want. I recently learned that Opinel makes a folding oyster knife.

How thin are your talking about? Something like a kitchen paring knife thin?

My opinion is that if you choose to keep a tool inside your car for such emergencies, sacrificing it potentially is no big deal if it saves your life. I am sure you have seen videos of people kicking out a laminated glass such as a windshield. Probably harder than it looks is my guess.
