Thin tip knives performance?

Does anyone own & has tested any busse with relatively acute tips?
How do they hold up when comparing them to models with more obtuse ends?

I am thinking knives such as the axe hammer, SJTAC & BT6

INFI has incredible toughness, but are you guys a little more careful with blades that arent as thick and get skinnier towards tip end of the knife?

The reason I ask is because I have an axe hammer heading my way that seems like the tip is quite acute compared to most-all models. Do I need to be at all, more careful, with this one due to its thin stock and tip?

I took my AMS to a very thin tip, it did micro micro(you probably wouldn't notice if I didn't tell you) chip/tear off when it went into some hard wood. Any steel would have had the same happen, probably worse.
INFI is amazing stuff, easily my favorite, but it can chip or tear under stress,,
In the future I'll leave my tips bevel a little more obtuse

I got one of the American regulators last December the tip is very acute comes to almost needle point at the very tip and has a slight swedge I haven't really beat on it to hard as far as stabbing gos cause I mworried about breaking a half inch of tip off. Has anyone had any issues with it or am I just being a p#$%y?

Got a laugh from that.😊

Stabbing prying into wood, bet your all good, prying open car door, the tip won't be there no more.😉

Think youll be fine for everything within reason. Try stuff, that's what Busses are for is too beat the sh!+ outta. Warranty has you covered my man, for most part. I'll take a thin stabby slicey tip over a thick one that won't cut/penetrate butter ALMOST anyday. Especially on small knives prefer skinny. I cut stuff more than pry with knives, is that wrong. Obviously like reasonably sturdy tip, but there's definitely overkill out there.

Bt6 has great tip imo, so does CS Vex with recurve, I hate myself for selling that one.

Edit to add bt6 tip as thin as is, it should be very durable, it's still thicker than knives of other companies I have beat on without braking tips. Though I have broken tips plenty, thinnest Busse have pried/stab with was a .15-16" CS Vex and tip no worse for wear. Feel confident I could stick that knife into many metal objects without worry. Just use a little common sense, unless you got a crazy thick tip can't do SUPER crazy things with it, mostly. I feel like bt6 tip is VERY durable, still thin(ish) as well as grind, really feel both tip and grind are perfect. Gonna put it through trials soon.

I'd imagine you would be fine stabbing into wood just don't do a side to side crowbar style tip test if you are worried.

I did this about 100 times on one of my pointy TGLBs and all that happened was a tiny little roll that i straightened out.

If you're worried just be careful, i wouldn't be though

Lol the side to side crow bar kinda test was what I was thinking. Iv seen a few videos of that and iv snapped few tips off cheaper knives doing it. I might have to do it few times in 2x4 just to put my mind at ease. Thank you for the advice

I've had the tip break off of one of my bark river knives. It's a mean test

What is it that you want to do with a knife that you are worried about breaking the tip off mate ? Most of these discussions are a big wild fantasy (and that's OK - except for the Zombie stuff, that is truly serious business !!) when it comes to extreme knife use. So I think the best measure is tell us what you want to do with the Axe Hammer (love that knife BTW) that you think may damage it ? Yes it has less steel out front than a NMFSH but that does not mean it is "fragile" for the tasks you would associate with a knife that size (and many beyond that in reality).

I had the Boney Anorexic Active Duty.

THIN tip. Thin grind. Loved it. Should have held onto that one for sure!

It was just fine. But it is not a chopper.

Hard prying for example...you know how hard the woods get down here.
I am not exactly worried per say, because of their warranty...more curious as to how INFI stands up in less chunky knives.

Ps Timmy that link did not work for me

I can't see you having an issue at all mate, wood is not going to cause you drama. That said, just a small modicum of common sense goes along way. you can probably pry the doors off a car with am Axe Hammer (been done with a Boss Jack) that does not mean it is a smart thing to do either. I have used all manner of lesser blades than these for tasks not really "knife appropriate" and it has been no issue.

I had a CABS that didn't hold up as well as some other Busse's I've had over the years. INFI really shines with some meat behind the edge. Small thin INFI knives are not where the steel shines. Even Jerry has made mention of it in the past. Probably why there are so few anorexic Busse (INFI) knife models.

What was the issue? I guess I better get my CABS out and see,,,

Anyone have photos of the cabs spine and tip? So i can compare it to the axe hammer?

I did a quick simple test of stabbing and side to side pry on some hard plastic stool with the rmd & scharde schf52 (i think it is?).

Photos are taken on my phone so they aren't the best.

I wasn't exactly being gentle by any means, even though it is plastic & not wood, yet still relatively tough:

Basically no damage at all to the RMD aside from a tiny touch of coating wear, the schrade tip did not break but is almost completely blunt and suffered much worse damage in comparison.

Remember, Christian, there is more than one way to do everything.

Instead of prying, maybe baton around the area you need or use a saw if you are worried but 99.99999% you will be fine mate :)
