Is Aldo the only source for W2? I'd really like to get some more .125 but he's out of everything but 1".

You could probably hit up local machinery, industrial or tool makers places or the like, I find that most stock w2/w1, o1 and d2. New Jersey Steel Baron also has some too.

Aldo is NJSB. I would not count on any industrial vendor having W2 as it has not been used for quite some time. That is why we had to get ours from Don H.and Aldo.

ALRO (this will get confusing) has it on their website and even describe it correctly so I'm seeing if they actually have any.

ALRO may have to listed, but that does not mean they have it. The ALRO near me carries no tool steel at all, on construction/structural grade stuff. They bought out a local company and what tool steel they had, like Timken O1, A2 and D2 got moved to their Orlando location. I buy buy my 1018 from them for fittings.

I ping Alro a few times a year, they have never been able to get anything besides the usual (A2, O1, D2, S7 etc)

can't help you on W2, but msc has W1 and it makes a great knife and has various sizes.

Check Fastenal. They carry it sometimes. Others options are the knife suppliers, USA, Alpha, Pop's, Jantz, K&G, HTT&R, etc. Crucible and Admiral may also have what yu want.

I'll check all of my coil/plate distributors. None of the knife suppliers have any that I can find.

That will be the fall back plan. I can get W1 all day. I have a predisposition to hate it however due to some failed projects in trade school that we had to water quench :thumbdn:

I can get over that if I have to. If I find W2 I'm going to stock up this time.

I need to get my roll built so I can draw stuff thinner. Then I could just stock up on 1" bars or something.

Knifemaker.ca may have some. He bulk buys from Aldo, so it's the same stock.

How much do you need? If it's just for a single project, I'll send you a piece for that project today.

No need, though I really appreciate the offer, I have some 3/16 on hand that will work for any single blade. I was just hoping to get a number of blanks cut for some kitchen knife production and I'm out of .125.

The problem is I've become addicted to hamons and while I'm getting some good ones with 1095 it's just not the same.

1095 needs about 10f hotter than W2, and slightly thicker clay in my experience. It just doesn't get the dramatic ashi like W2 though. Try some hitachi white if you want to be blown away.
