I found this commercial for a survival knife in the 80's it made me laugh.

Hope you don't mind me sharing it!

And man that dude sure has one mean belt buckle.

I'm glad him and that kid were "surviving" with a tent and some pre-cut wood. :D

Here's my favorite...

Haha. I found that knife in my Dad's attic a few weeks ago. The "420 molecular steel" sharpens razor sharp but can't hold an edge. He got it 20+ years ago and the little matches still work.

I had one of those - the wire saw that you used with split rings on the handle pulled apart the first time you pulled on them.

The blade dulled when you looked at it too hard. I wish I still had it for the entertainment value.

What a flashback - thanks to the OP.

Hey...I had one of those... I abused the heck out of it and it actually held up just fine. I think I got it for X-Mas one year.

That's so awesome!
I got my dad one of those for $5 back in 1984 at a Big M drug store in Calgary.
Ah, the memories.:D
I think he still has it too.

I had one too. The main thing that I used it for was chopping the heads off of catfish. Worked good for that.:)

Don't laugh. After the Rambo movies those things were the shite if you were 12 and didn't know any better. I had/have that EXACT knife that I bought from the local flea market for around $11. I remember using it to hack at japanese knot weed all summer long. The stone was some sort of super abrasive, I'd compare it to pumice. Never saw that commercial but just imagine what it was like for a kid to find something like that before the internet, when word traveled from person to person.

It was all about Rambo back then. Had quite a populist impact. Later, Commando with Ahnold was another - almost died laughing through it. Glad I saw it on post, my buddy and I would have been tossed out of a civilian theatre for all the ad libs we were voicing.

Can't tell you how many of those broke getting thrown at trees back then. Most of the cheap ones had a 1 inch tang in the cast aluminum handle. I even saw brown plastic gripped ones for $3 as the fad died out in the late '80s.

Imagine the look on some kids face when he realized he was pounding in nails with the exposed auto compass in the butt . . .

How much free crap can you get for $10
It might have been worth it for all the free stuff they gave as well.

Awesome! I love how there is a bottle opener on it, so now you can open those stubborn pop top beers incase you get in a situation where you have to survive :D.

Great flashback!

"you get to keep the sheath & sharpening stone even if you send back the knife!" LMAO:D:D

so if I was listening properly if I waited to call then I would just get the knife not the sheath? and also, I would have an empty handle no survival kit in on the survival knife? ;)
funny old video. thanks for sharing them.

and the second video... gee nobody run in and help the guy or anything. emergency surgery or the coroner, could have clipped his artery and the dopes just stand there as far as we can tell then the second idiot runs in to save the commercial? sounds like a section for the darwin awards/priceless section. ;)
