Things I can't and can stand

That's one heckuva beard!

I let the barber trim it when I get my haircut. But glad to know someone picked up on that comment. Now if I just get some Rx shades to hide behind maybe I can start looking in the mirror again. ;)

So you didn't make the cut for ZZ-Top?

Me neither. My beard varies in length and bushiness somewhere between 1/2" thick to as thick as my avatar.

But I haven't started balding much...yet

I just got from helping a new friend move in...

I like to stay in the truck and do all the back work. It wears me out faster, because I lift every item (instead of every third, etc.), but it's better than constantly bending over which would lay me up for a couple of days.

I was tossing boxes left and right and he was a little bemused.

I've moved at least 2 dozen folks in or out of their houses in the last 5 years. Some, twice. Myself, thrice. But mine was the hardest I've ever done. I guess I really go crazy with the packing. I have a nice system (but too much to go into now). Anyway, my boxes averaged about 60 lbs. each with the heaviest object being 300 lbs. (my 390 ford engine ;) ) However, everything was packed in containers with handles and not hard to carry.

So, his bemusement came because, relative to my move, his stuff was pretty easy. Plus it's always easier to toss other people's stuff around. :D

Anyway, the beard part now...

Crap, I forgot. Must be time to go to bed. G'night!

One of my mottos is "there's a right way and a wrong way."

Two that I've followed my whole life:

1. Do the right thing.

2. Never tolerate disrespect.

we're on beards now? I had a beard. I looked kinda cultish, ala Banjo music. The darn shame is a full beard would look good just not my mangy dog dog beard. More of neck wrap.

when you confront disrespect you make the world better.

Banjo music? Then pull your chairs up round the cracker barrel and I'll tell you a story.

The "f" hole guitar ( so the story goes ) was a result of the stock market crash and subsequent Great Depression.

Prior to the depression the banjo was a leading instrument in the days of unamplified theatres and concerts. However it fell from favor with the coming of the depression. The banjo's bright, joyous, well carrying sound across large audiences seemed inappropriate to the times. An effort was made to replace it with the softer but more harmonious and melodic sound of the guitar but it just didn't have the power or volume to carry that the banjo did.

It was in an effort to increase the carrying power of the guitar that the flat front and back of the standard guitar with it's single round center hole were discarded and replaced for concert hall performances with the arched fronts and backs and "f" holes similar in shape to that of the violin, viola, and other strings. This gave the guitar the ability to step into the banjo's spot and take it over.

The banjo was relegated to country and folk type uses, not returning to front center stage until after the McCarthy hearings became a debacle. By then electronic amplification became available on guitars and guitars remained in the forefront. Until the 60's folk music era and the nation wide spread of country music. Now the banjo is back.

You should know by now the ability of threads on this forum to become knotted into mythic dimensions approaching that of the Gordian knot. But we all know how to resolve that tangle with with a Ganga Ram Special don't we fellow forumites . DON'T WE?

Now come up with a better True Tall Tale Than That! I dare ya'!

I play the harmonica by ear. Do we have the makings of a HI Khukuri jug band?

Those f-hole guitars are still popular with Jazz players. They are really beautiful and usually very expensive instruments. Much more difficult to make than a flat top.

You must really be boiling to be able to play from the steam coming out your ears. I just use the hot air coming out my mouth.

Yes, baaad pun but I'll be over the top with 5K posts soon. Very soon. :D :D :D
