Guys,

I'm in Charleston, SC for a few days. Because of my current physical limitations, I'm looking for things to do that aren't physically intensive. Does anybody know any good knife/ surplus/ outdoorsy stores in the Charleston/ Isle of Palms/ Mount Pleasant area?

Thank you,
J

I don't know of any such stores in Charleston cause it's about an hour away from me. If I wasn't working all week and through the weekend I'd take ya fishing in the Tailrace Canal though. BIG catfish. If you're ever down this way again, shoot me a pm or email and I'll be glad to take you. If you're still limited physically it's no problem. All that would be required of you is keeping me and my dog company.

The USS Hundley was on display there at one time dont know if it still is though.

The aquarium is quite nice. The USS Yorktown (WWII aircraft carrier) is stored at Patriots Point if you're interested in military history type stuff. Fort Moultrie is also pretty cool, with Revolutionary, Civil and WWII history. Luden's Outdoor Outfitters is a local store that has been open for 139 years. I've never been, but I found out recently that they're lease is up at the end of May (IIRC) and they're not renewing/going out of business. Might be worth checking out and possibly some closeout deals.

:) I have a 200 acre private hunting plantation near the coast of SC.....

There's a Half-Moon downtown, folly beach, and Mt. Pleasant (on Coleman Blvd.) There is an Army-Navy surplus store in Gas Light Square on the corner of Remount Road and Rivers Ave. It's pretty small though. There's the Charleston Angler, Sewee's Outpost, Barton and Burwell. These are hunting/fishing/outdoor supply type stores. Probably more to do with fishing than you may be looking for.

Joezilla, how close are you to me??

I'm approx 20 miles north of Charleston, if you want to tour a knife shop.
Luden's is a good stop. Carolina Rod and Gun is west of the Ashley and Traders World and ATP gun shop is in the north area of Charleston.

Carolina River Rat,

That's extremely cool of you. After the first surgery, I may take you up on that and no worries...I speak dog.

Cjag,

The Hundley is still here.

Cssims,

Did Battery Park two days ago...you can almost feel the ghosts there.

JC,

I'll check out Luden's...anything you want me to check on?

bhoff,

I'll look into Half-Moon...thank you.

Joezilla,

Where have you been all my life?

Clemsonreeder,

I don't care if I lose the use of all four limbs...I can always handle fishing...I wonder if I could hold the rod in my teeth.

Mr. Branton,

I saw some of your knives online the other day...would love to see some in person.

Thanks for the great suggestions everybody,
J

Nothing I can think of off hand. I'm about 4 hours away from Charleston, so let me know if it'd be worth hitting before they shut down. From their website, it looks like they might have already been cleaned out. There was a piece about the store on a local news station a week ago or so and I wonder if that caused a rush on the store.
