hey guys.
Im going to tallahassee to visit a friend of mine in about a month, and Im wondering if you guys have some suggestions of things to do while I'm there.
interesting places to visit, stores to check out, any hiking spots, all the things we love to do here at W&SS, and maybe somethings that are not wilderness related.
any suggestions?

Man, you're going to Tallahassee after the term ends. All the two legged (hot) things to do are going to be home for the summer. Well, there is good fishing a few miles away down the coast. There is an abundance of outdoor places near there. Tallahassee is a great place to mountainbike. Its hilly, but not too hilly.

I used ot take Pensicola avenue out of town 5 miles. There is a left turn, I can't remember, but I remember there is a quarry on that little road. At the end of the road is a national park with a pretty little lake. Good fishing, camping, etc.

Really though, the best resource that was in Tallahassee was the two legged one. I've never seen anything like it.

Only place better than Tally for the two legged natural resource is Gainesville Florida. Twice as many and the town is about 1/4 the size!!

It's been years since I've been down there, but the coolest things I remember are swimming at Cherokee Sink and Wakulla Springs. As I recall, Cherokee Sink had the greatest rope swing to dive from.

Torreya State Park is west of Tallahassee and very unique for Florida. Middel of know where. Great hike along the river.

Not only do I dispute this assertion, but I add that their resources in Gainesville are dumb and diseased.

Apalachicola River and National Forest: 1/2 million acres of real Florida. Canoeing on Ecofina Creek is about less than two hour drive. Also close, St. Vincent's Island National Wildlife Refuge, federally owned, uninhabited island in the Gulf that is the home to Red Wolves and Sanbar Deer along with native wildlife. You'll have to charter a ride or catch a shuttle boat if it's running (either way it's cheap). Very short ride, I've seen folks kayak it plenty of times. St. Joe St. Park would be a short drive, and is absolutely beautiful. It's a peninsula that divides the Gulf from St. Joe Bay. Probably the last 7 miles of totally undeveloped beach left on the Gulf of Mexico. Sugar white sand dunes and clear water. There is also state owned buffer preserves in that area. It's funny to see whitetail deer run down the beach or gators over on the bay side.
And.... I'll make you this offer:
I'll be at our camp on Dead Lakes the last week in May. It's about an hour and half or two from Tally. If you and your friends would like a tour of the area, I have a pontoon boat and would be happy to take you guys out for a few hours. There is a state park with camping areas less than five miles from our camp. I took all these photos during May of last year or the year before. The gators are very active and vocal, the osprey's are on nest and everything is in full bloom:

Well, looking at that slide show, there are a few pics that were NOT taken in May, we won't be doing any deer hunting!

If you won't be here during that week, I could do it on just about any Sunday, as I live less than an hour from our camp. Just throwing it out there, as I like to show the area off. I have taken lots of folks out, including the National Audubon Society.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, I just finished writting everything down. I just hope I have the time to check out most of those places.
Fishshooter, I am honored by your invitation and I think it would be great, I just have to check my schedule for the time I'm up there, but Ill do my best to make things work.
I'm gonna talk to my friend asap and will get back to you. is there any other way to contact you? if you can, send me an email, I will try to convince my friend to go with me (i don't know if she's an outdoors enthusiast like myself) by the way, sorry about my poor english, but i will have some time to practice while I'm there.
and those are nice pictures! thanks a lot.

Be sure to have your brother show you the capitol from the 'c*ck and balls' viewpoint. I was always told it was designed to resemble that. It certainly does. Bit tall building in the middle of two domes....

i hear beaver hunting is a huge thing down there. not sure when its in season though. my buddy went to school there and thats all he talked about.
