Things you find in the woods thread

In February I found two guns on separate outings. No joke! The first one was a Remington .22 that I cleaned up and gave to my son for his birthday. The other one was a Ruger revolver that I found on the beach. I cleaned it up good enough to read the serial number, but I haven't figured out where to take it from there.

Three years ago I set up a new 17 foot ladder stand on a new farm that I got permission to hunt on. I got it cinched down, and turned around and sat down. Then I realized I was staring face to face with a baby doll that had grown into the limb of the tree. One eye was open, and the other closed. The landowner was in her 70's, and never had a daughter.

On the same farm the next year a friend found this buck who had hung himself...It was creepy walking up on him in the half-light, it looked like a zombie deer, standing on 2 feet!

I don't have any pictures handy, but I've found some strange things in the woods over the years. Balloons and golf balls seem to be ubiquitous over the entire continent. Hike hours out into the mountains, miles from the nearest road, and sure as hell there's a golf ball or scrap of mylar... One particular balloon had a note attached, written in Spanish, from a girl to Santa asking for a doll.

Another time a UFO floated overhead, coming lower and lower, and crashing into some trees a mile or so away but still visible from the cabin. Shot a compass bearing and went hiking to the location. The "UFO" was a dozen balloons tied together with all sorts of religious things attached, like a Saint-somebody medallion and a Jesus greeting card with a name and address. I wrote to the address, and received a reply from a lady saying she sent up a similar "balloon rosary" every year. This year it only went about 90 miles...

Hatchet (2 or 3), Case pocketknife, wallet, loggers tape measure, baby's grave (very recent and illegal), hundreds and hundreds of archaeological sites (what I was paid to look for)... I have a small collection of hunting arrows, and enough antlers that I stopped picking up any that were cracked or chewed on (rodents need them for calcium).
