Things you'd like to see out of Redmeadow Knives?

Sent one of these off to a friend the other day and made a set as a wedding gifts a couple of weeks ago.

Any interest in these in general? This one's a lefty... Mack Mack has entered the chat🤣

Roy made a couple and asked me if he could sell them. I told him maybe we could do an auction in here or something.

Hadn't been to a wedding in a long time, it was fun. A bit of a reunion for me with a lot of the folks in their mid 20's having been part of a youth thing I ran a dozen years ago. With a long beard now it took a while for some of them to recognize me which was fun because I basically assaulted everyone with a hug and handshake and enjoyed the 3 seconds of " Who the hell are you?" look followed by surprise and an "Oh s#&t!" šŸ˜†
I'm in!!! Start the bidding!

Would love to see some metal tools and items forged. Either for real camp cooking or just for decoration, maybe cowboy art.

Good idea, I'd like to expand my forging into some interesting things. I've had some odd ideas about little sculptures and bowls. What I'd really like to figure out is some way to use leather and steel together in a valet tray. For now my forging is limited because of the narrow width of my forge, I'm stuck with linear items less than 2 1/2" wide for now. A larger forge is on the list as the next large item I need.

Everyone wanted to forge today so Roy finished up a turner he started a few days ago, Ains and Momma each made S-Hooks and I forged a Scout. I helped with direction and the twist on the turner but they did all of their own hammer work, it was a lot of fun.

That's awesome, John. I love it. Looking forward to seeing how that Scout shapes up.
Thanks man, we all really enjoyed ourselves in the forge, good times. I've been random with the brut de forge "Scout" knives until now, I've got a design/style that kept getting naturally forged out. Sometimes things seem to want to be made and this shape keeps asking for it under the hammer so I'm gonna run with it.

Nice metal work. Like that Scout. So with a steak turner, does a twist on the end allow easier turning of the steak without really much effort? Silly question maybe, I know, but had to ask.

Yeah after ya bang out a few ya figure out why some knives, that have been around for ever, are the shape that they are. Cause they want to be!

Great work on all items!!

Once you stick something with it you just rotate your hand and the hook peels the steak up off the grill or pan. Plus you hold it horizontally so you're not reaching over the top like you would with a fork. You know how when you stab something with a fork it wants to slide off? The hook keeps that from happening.

They work great for flippin bacon too, keeps you from reaching over the top of the pan and getting popped with grease, works way better than a fork or spatula. We have one for the kitchen that we use all the time.

I'm still waiting to start bidding on the left handed one. I gotta try this out.

Redmeadow Knives Redmeadow Knives John, how do you feel about working with A2?

My son in law handed me 15 pounds of 3/16ā€ and 5/16ā€ A2 tool steel. I realize forging is a chore and stock removal on 5/16ā€ isn’t your usual thing but…

I feel like sharing. Want some?

I'd definitely be interested in some, 5/16 would be great for jigs, file guides and things of that sort. The thickness would be good for forging but a quick glance looks like A2 is pretty particular about forging since it's an air hardening steel, I'll have to do more research on that. If you'd like to part with some I'd cover shipping and make it worth your while somehow.

I apologized for the delay. The steel ended up in no-man’s land, my work bench.

I sent some off via USPS this morning. It probably won’t get there until Friday with the holiday. No worries on shipping cost. I cut it down to fit diagonally in a large Priority box. I hope that still works for you.
