Think I found my next pistol, S&W 586!

I have a 686-2 and I love it. I grew up shooting K frame's with family. I still love a model 19 or 66, but the 686 is the way to go if you plan on shooting lots of magnum loads. The Ruger GP100 is an excellent handgun too. It's built like a tank and will handle any ammo off the shelf with ease.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw the pics - parkerizing is a cost effective, rugged finish - perfect for your stated uses. I have saved up about $300 towards my next gun...I would have snapped that up in a new york minute! Good score --- now go have some fun shooting it!

I wasn't going to buy a gun any time soon, not really in the budget. The 586 just sort of showed up at my local gun shop, and I had to get it, just too perfect for my needs and budget.
I'm still weighing my options on the finish, I do like a parderized finish. Rust can still happen, but again, for this gun, and my uses, that would be about perfect.
