was up in the country lastnight making a campfire with my sisters kids battoned my mini canadian to make some kindlingmust of hit a rock and slightly rolled the edge... Iwhen I came home today gave it a few passes on 600grit over a mousepad..tyhan a loaded strop... shaving sharp....upon inspection I noticed that I might be getting a slightly different angle towards the tip (I always mess up the tip) the thing stil sharper than anything... but I don't want to mess up the convex grind over time...

ALL of my Barkies change as you enter the area from belly to tip, but I don;t think that's what you meant. Since the tip is the hardest part to keep pointy, at least while trying to do one smooth stropping motion, you might be lifting a little much at the tip. This creates a bevel appearance that seems like it's changing the angle into a small v-grind at the tip. As you strop, do you change the perpendicular angle of the knife in relation to the hone? I don't know if that's worded where someone could understand it. When I start out, the knife is perpendicular to the hone. As I strop, I angle the "perpendicularity" of the edge so the edge is always 90 degrees to the strop, while the handle may not be. On the mini-Canadian, this happens fairly fast because the blade is so short. I'd say keep a low angle too....on the mini-Canadian anyway.

If you're concerned about the edge after rolling it, ship it back to Bark River and they'll take care of it.

If for regular edge maintenance, you use their black and green compounds on a flat leather strop, it'll be quite awhile before you need to worry about creating a different edge - then you can either send it back to get re-ground, or just say, "what the heck! It still cuts like a razor so who cares?!"

Yup, that's what I usually think to myself.:D Over the time I've owned my North Star, the tip has lost some of it pointedness, but I'm not seeing anything that resembles a beveled edge yet and it's still cuts like a demon on steroids.
