thinking about a new EDC rotation strategy

I just carry what I want unless.there's a specific task.I'm scheduled or planning to do, then I pick my tool for the task.

I know I'm going to be in the minority here but to me if you rotate then that's not EDC. For me EDC means you carry X everyday. For instance I carried the same Spyderco Endura 3 combo everyday for over ten years. That was my EDC. Currently I carry a Spyderco Delica in foliage green most every day but like many here I switch it up depending on the situation. Most often I change when wearing different clothes or different situations. I also regularly carry more than one knife. The Spyderco and a large Cold Steel folder concealed. I also carry a victorinox classic every day, that is an EDC.

Noun vs. adjective. :) It works well either way.

Just like variety vs. uniformity in a collection....main thing is to enjoy.

Ive got 14-15 knives. And i rotate them every few days. But i carry 2 knives everyday its always a crk large elder burl and something else.
If you carried a second knife you could switch it up everyday.

At least 3, actually.

Sorry makes 4of us. Well said.

You may be a minority, but you're not alone. That makes two of us.

Well, you're all going to have to live with it. You can object all you want but the term is here to stay. Might be better for your blood pressure if you were more easy going with colloquialisms. ;)

I only have 3 knives that I edc so it's pretty easy for me .
Delica: normal edc
Zt 0350: hard use edc
Case soddie jr : dress/classy/descrete edc

Haha! Whoooaaaa! Noting a semantic quibble isn't the same as saying you're suffering over it. I'm over here going "meeehhhh", not going on a marcinek style mini crusade.

+1

Calling 11 knives your EDC, is like calling a car collection your daily driver.
I've had a plain jane Benchmade Griptilian in my pocket for two years and a Victorinox Alox Cadet for nearly a year. Those are my EDC.

Edit -

If you don't mind me asking (preferably without getting your butt hurt), why would you "rotate" between two Paramilitary 2's and two Manix 2's?

Why not carry multiple knives? I carry two knives daily and mix in a third/fourth on the weekends.

Technically an EDC knife outta be more than just one day at a time. Or else you could call it Whole Day Carry or one day carry.
EDCing a(!) knife however can be any knife for any duration as long as it's just any knife for every day.

For me I wouldn't call a knife my edc knife if it werent carried for 2 weeks at least and even then it's not an edc if I already know I'll be replacing it in 2 weeks.

Still I know some guys here use the term edc knife differently and that's fine since I'm capable of understanding what they mean ☺

My 2-cents. I carry the knives that I currently like and don't worry about rotations. I will occasionally substitute a GEC #42 (back pocket in leather slip) for the ZT.

Same here. I used to keep buying knives saying "this will be the one I carry day in and day out". But felt bad each time id carry a new knife for a week and go back to an older one. Ive even ordered knives with this intention, and already being back to "EDCing" an old favorite before it arrives! So now I just keep all of my "carry worthy" knives in a box in front of where I put my wallet and keys at the end of the day and grab whatever one I feel like. Eventually they all get used this way, with the true favorites getting their just usage and the "every other knife is more practical than this" ones getting weeded out.

I cant see too many people who participate in a knife forum carrying the same knife every single day, unless it is for a test/experiment. I do see the appeal though... tying many "knife related memories" to one single knife, plus the wear and scratches of a well-used knife sounds ideal. I have a Buck Prince that was in my pocket on my wedding day, used it to cut the sewn-shut pockets on my groomsmen and i's new jackets, and new father in law used it to cut open a bunch of envelopes the next morning so we could have honeymoon cash to take with us. But that becomes a catch-22- the memories for that knife make me not want to carry it for fear of losing it!

I like to just let my selection for the day kind of happen. I carry what I reached for, with little thought. Over time, patterns emerge. I stopped carrying my Manix 2 at all, so I traded it. My ZT 0566 has gotten carried a LOT, so I'm keeping that one. I've settled into carrying any one of 4 knives, with a Wenger Esquire also in pocket every day.

I generally carry a different knife every day. However, for the last week I've only carried my Kizer Ki423.

Debating the term EDC? Nice...ImageUploadedByTapatalk1425949243.064623.jpg

Definitely rotate. One knife for 10 years...😳🔫

The only knife I carry ever single day is a SAK. The others are subject to my whims of the day. I have a fairly good selection of knives that I could carry daily. I just am seldom that predictable except for the SAK. The point is it really doesn't matter... use them, don't use them. It is all the same and as long as you're enjoying the hobby, just carry what you feel like without guilt that some knives may never get used.

Both are good questions-

I was persistent and managed to get one of the green Para2's. I also saw people using RIT dye on their digicam models and I thought the red ones looked good so I decided to try that. The bottom knife on the left side is actually dark red, the next one up is the green one. The third knife up on the left side is the S110V LW Manix 2, the fourth one up is the G10 Manix 2 in Cruwear. There is enough difference between the G10 model and the lightweight model that I like to carry both of them.

I have tried carrying a second knife but it is hard to fit more stuff into my small pockets. If I was carrying a second knife it would likely be a smaller knife such as a Delica, so that doesn't help with my rotation.
