Thinking about a Para-Military, Question???

So, I have 2 Militarys, the second of which hasnt even arrived yet, but I made a deal with myself that I would buy the 3 knives, and that would be all (and for financial reasons, its not gonna be hard to keep that deal with myself either).

The last in the series to get is a Para Military. I have the 2 Militarys, and the Para is going to be my version of a more "gentleman-like" folder. For going on dates and going "out" and things like that.

The Military is truely my user knife.

Now comes my question, and even though it has been asked time and time again, do you guys think that I should get the Para with the Spyderedge on it, or Plain Edge?

Both of my Militarys are PE for ease of sharpening because they are my workhorses. But here is why I have once again asked this question-because I have tailored it to my needs.

Like I said, the knife will go into my pocket when work is done, and whenever I am going to hang out and there is light-duty stuff going on (which could potentially be a rescue situation-you never know on your time off).

Give me your opinions and reasons. There is nothing I like more than a good explanation to help your opinions and points sink in better.

It is really a personal preference, for me I like plain edges. They are easier to sharpen, more sheeple friendly, and you can do more with a plain edge than you can with a serrated edge. With a plain edge you can make straight exact cuts, with a serrated edge it is a little harder. The para has a small-ish blade and the design of the para makes for a great slicer, and for slicers I like PEs.

And I third it:foot:. However, I do believe there is a place in most people's arsenal for a serrated edge. Somewhere. Yeah, I know there is (apparently) nothing a SE can do that a properly sharpened PE can't accomplish as well. But what about making a series of linear perforations in plastic or aluminum? I won't get into why, but I've had to do this a few times, and what took me all of two minutes with a SE would probably would have taken at least triple that with a PE, and not nearly as neatly, effectively and with as much penetration depth control. That's just one example; I'm sure I could come up with many more if I sat here long enough. But overall, my vote goes to PE.

SE are great rope cutters and they fit well on a rescue knife or the jumpmaster. If you are undecided you may want to try a spydie with a combo edge, I know they don't make CE paras, but maybe you could find a cheaper model to see if you prefer serrations or plain edges.

I'm a PE kinda guy .... BUT
I'd be willing to bet the Para will take most of the time in your EDC rotation. IMHO, the PERFECT EDC. I bought and sold the Military in a week, in fact, the original owner wanted it back, lol. Anyway, the (para) compression lock, action and size.... perfect. If dollars were flowing as they used to? Sure I would have loved to have kept the Millie; an awesome blade, even still, I prefer the Para. Not sure how PC it is though, I've made a few eyes open wide with it.

I have owned at least a dozen para mili's in my time... Ive been back to this knife more than any other..
got a D2 coming in a day or two..
Plain edge by the way..
good for me..

I have a numbered SE Para (#122) that I never use. I find that a PE just does everything I need and more.

For me, I would go with a PE Para. Just preference, really. For an SE knife, I'd go with an Endura, Delica, or a Salt.:)

And you can put an edge on most PE steels that is at the same time sharp but also toothy/rough/jagged and it will somewhat mimic serrations depending on the task. I've found that my D2 Para doesn't want to take an ultra-smooth polished edge... it does much better finishing off with 204 medium rods if you do it right, fine whites at most.

I'm really loving my D2. In fact, I find it outshines my Sebenza in almost every aspect, save for maybe fit and finish. But it kicks @ss where it matters--ergonomics, cutting ability, ease and pleasure of opening/closing, PRICE;)!

I've owned and loved the para, but a few things to keep in mind.

If this is your sheeple friendly knife, it may not do so well. It's still physically large (when closed), and a serrated edge will be more scary to most.

And, at any rate, great though it is, it's not particularly dressy. The new Leafstorm or Sage might do a better job, as they're smaller and have exotic scales that are interesting to the idea.
