Thinking about a walking stick

Good grief, he killed a rubber snake with a plastic club!

I know! :D
I seriously laughed so much at that last night that my wife had to see what was going on.
Once she saw it, the humour was immediately evident.

Cold Steel, for when you're attacked by deadly deadly plastic snakes. ;)

( I LOVE how he sneaks up on it)

You guys are still at it!
Those Boyd laminates look cool, but I couldn't carry it off- too flamboyant for me.
Another nice thing about the humble crook-top is that it's the most usual and expected. Nobody's going to give you crap for trying to look like Fred Astaire or Gandalf or Robin Hood.

I wonder how upnorth is doing with his larch and chokecherry.

Esav is right about the utility of a plain crook cane and I have quite a few. I do enjoy making my own and there's something special about a walk or hike with a stick or cane that you've made by hand.
I like to cut the wood from November to February and store it in a loft in my shed for a year before working on it. The first stick is one that I purchased a piece of oak dowel and fitted a 17-4 stainless steel handle to it.
I drilled and tapped it for 3/8" 16 thread rod. The handle I made years ago when I worked in a machine shop. The second stick is made from a piece of English Yew that I cut and shaved down and fitted a spalted maple handle on it.
The handle I purchased years ago and I used leather as a spacer for both of the sticks. My favorite stick is a piece of Osage Orange that's 1 1/2" Ø and 52' long.

I bought the 5 foot "professional" blowgun for my walking stick. With 3mm walls, it will not bend when convincing dog or dogs that you are not "lunch". You can carry darts in a back pack or something to get that squirrel for squirrel stew supper. (during hunting season, of course, and only if you have a hunting license.)
