Thinking about buying a strider GB or an AR or a commander, Are they worth the money?

88M Soldier:

Saying "Should I get a Strider or an Emerson" is truly like saying "should I buy a Ferrari or a Pinto?"

I'm not trying to knock Emerson knives, as they are fine blades from what I understand, but they are pretty darn far from the performance of Strider.

Strider gives discounts to active military personnel. The Strider guys are wonderful men, ex-military themselves.

Strider all the way, especially since your butt will be on the line.

These knives are made by guys who have been there, done that, and know exactly what you will need a knife for.

I'm not sure how much of a discount, but I know there is special pricing for you guys.

Don't worry about wait time; they'll try their best to have a blade in your hand ASAP!!!

Thank you for your service!

88M,
Active duty enlisted military personnel get 20% of and if you are deploying Mick and Dwayne will put you to the top of the list and get you the knife you need ASAP. Talk to your dealer and have him ask the strider guys if he can provide the same discount to you . I did this once with a well known Strider dealer and they hooked me up.

Good choice with the Strider, I have a GB and an Emerson Commander. There is no comparison. My Strider GB is superior to the Emerson Commander in all respects. Cost two and a half times as much but worth every penny.

I've got my strider GB in my hand I paid full price and it appears to be used it's still A great knife though.I think I'll call strider and see if they could work me A deal and i'll send this one back,Thanks for the info.My commander should be here next monday.

Hello there. I have been interested in getting my hands on a Strider folder to see what it's really like, but no chance so far in my corner of the woods.

I know comparisons are a litle difficult and may not be very fair to the knives themselves, but how would you rate the toughness and the strength of the lock mechanism of the Strider SnG to the Spyderco Chinook I? So far, no other production folder I've yet held so far can match the Chinook's feeling of robustness when you engage the lock - but of course, I'm new to this field.

striders are the best knives around they cannot be compared to A spyderco.Spydercos are good knives in their own right though, I carry An endura and A harpy myself, but they are full production knives so A lot of quality is lost to ease of manufacture and price consideration.

So the overall quality is much better?

But how about functional strength of the lock mechanism - granted therre may be more flaws in the appearance and the finish of the blade, but what about the lock of the Strider vs the Chinook lock, strength-wise? I am curious about this question as the Chinook lock is supposed to be among, or perhaps the strongest production folder lock in the world, and Striders are said to be the toughest folders in the world.

I really don't know much about the chinook, but I can say striders are huge and tough the liners are the thickest i've ever seen and they're titanium.Lockup is great and no blade play whatsoever. You get what you pay for.

When you get the GB in your hands for the first time you will laugh like a schoolgirl. You really cannot imagine the shear hugeness of these knives until you have held one. The Buck versions are tiny in comparison. BadAss all the way! ;)
Yup. You will not only laugh like a schoolgirl, you will put on a skirt and realize what a girl you are in comparison to the GB! :p I dig mine. Someone once said it's got the heft and action of a fine firearm...so true.

They are very excellent knives. I owned an AR for a while and (like one of the other guys said) giggled like a school girl when I opened the package. It is an impressive knife. I have heard critism against any liner lock style knife because it would be possible to disengage the lock with the index finger. However I don't believe that is very likely. In addition to this, the person saying this was using that to promote their own line of knives. The bottom line is the Ar is a very well made knife. The Strider guys are very kind and they are men of integrity. They are former military and know how a knife should be build to stand up to daily abuse. Personally, I think you may find the SnG to be a little easier to carry because of its smaller size. Good luck and stay safe man.

Sorry to reply so late, but I haven't been around for a while. :)

Seriously man, comparing a Spyderco to a Strider is like comparing a tricycle to a Ferrari.

They both accomplish the same basic objective of transporting you, but that's right where the similarities end.

Same with Spydercos and Striders; they both can cut **** and that's right where the similarities end.

I am NOT knocking Spydercos, as they are decent knives, but they simply cannot be compared to Striders in any way.

Good luck and hope you bought the Strider. :)
