thinking about buying an electric furnace?

ok talked to some salesguy at kanthal today, i will probably get some quotes this week, for cylindrical elements and halfcylinders. dont know how much i should spend yet, what do you guys think a good oven is worth?? whats too much really?
the controlsystem will cost about 500, however its a good state of the art one. the element will probably be a real oddball voltage like 40v or something. so what kind of equipment should i scavenge for the copperthread you guys think? i need a ~2-3.5kw transformer, what would do as a donor? anyone know how thick thread i need for 70ampere or so? or does it even matter? anyway soon i will have my very own 1300°C+ oven yeehaa
