Hey guys,
Thinking about picking up my 1st Hinderer. I have a 0550 and a 0561. Like the them both a lot, maybe the 0550 a little more.
I'm thinking about a xm 18 3.5 spanto. I've never had a knife like this. Never had a sebenza or a Strider.
Talk me out of it.

If you have the cash do it. If you don't like it the odds are you will be able to resell it at a minimal loss.

Pssst, DO IT!

I was where you are in May of this year. I owned 13 ZTs. I currently own 1 ZT (Sentimental value) and 4 Hinderers and couldn't be more pleased with the decision. Amazing knife, company and people. Proud to be blessed to have a few to carry.

I own every knife you listed...and cannot stop buying only the Hinderers. Take that for whatever value you choose to apply.

Ditto Need2know. I have Sebenzas, Striders, microtechs, Randall's and others in many shapes and forms, some hard core users some safe queens. I got my first two Hinderers last April (standard XM 18 and XM 24) and have never had knives I like so much. Fun to work with, fun to play with, fun to customize. Take and keep an edge. And when you really get into it and meet Rick and the gang you will realize why his knives are so special.

And sorry the pic is from a knives and watches thread, but you get the idea.

Do it!

If you are willing to pay, it is a knife with a great reputation.

but, whether or not you will like it, who knows.
It is just a knife. It will not cure depression or increase your sex appeal. ;)

I've never had a knife I liked more.

I've bought and sold plenty of knives, the only one I've kept and won't even think about selling is my hinderer.

Well, if you hold in great disdain a high quality, robust and simple tool with high tolerances and great fit and finish, then you really don't want to purchase an XM-18.

Good luck with your decision, a 3.5" spanto is a great choice if you can't be talked out of it.

Nullify makes a good point, even though his response is funny. They're expensive knives, they are special, in my opinion, but only if you can afford it. Buying one will not stop you from lusting after other knives, watches, guitars, motorcycles, etc. but if you are in a position to lay out 385 - 800 for a knife, the Hinderer XM series is up there in terms of quality and usability. But it is just a knife.

And Duc's posted price range covers productions up to table prices for many of the customs. Certain customs do run higher though.

I bought a 561 first , then I bought a xm 18 3.5 spanto. Right now I only edc the xm and a crk 25.
The xm is smaller better fit in my pocket compared to the 561, my xm flips great. Look on the hinderer site at authorized dealers or the exchange here at BF to get the best price you can. Good luck with your search.

How about this trick you can do with your ZT 0550? that the XM-18 can't. =)

Once you do get one all other knives will be ruined for you. Nothing else compares. I did own all of the knives that you listed and sold them to get more hinderers. I still have a few CRKs that I'm having trouble parting with but eventually they will go too. Especially if these guys keep posting pics of these DLCs and wharnies! Get one immediately.

There is no production folder that can compete with the feel, strength, build quality, and personalization options offered by the XMs. Don't get one.

SOme advice: try to get the right size for your hands, and purposes. I prefer the 3" for EDC, but many prefer the 3.5". The spanto blade is an icon, although the slicer grind is probably more functional for peeling fruit and normal EDC duties. But the bottom line is, the Hinderer is one of the, if not the, finest knife on the planet.

This was me in July, although I only own two ZTs. I just got my 5th prod XM last week and now my hunt has switched to customs, I'm hooked. Trying to convince my wife that a vacation next year should include a GTG, Blade, or the Gathering :)

Good advice, I'm just the opposite - I prefer the 3.5" and rarely carry my 3". I probably won't get a -24 unless it falls into my lap because I expect I'll find it too big for me.
