Thinking about getting a Griptilian for a friend. Is their QC a bit off still?

I really want to buy a good old USA made Mini-Griptilian for a buddy. I however have read quite a few threads on blade play, or the blade hitting the stand-offs, or not being sharp at all out of the box. When I owned quite a few BM's (about 3 years ago) it seemed they were always flawless.

I don't want to buy a mini-grip for my buddy if the QC has gone down so much that they suck. I also have a brother in law that has a D2 Cabelas model and it's still going strong. He's had it for about 7 years and used it daily as is only knife. It gets muddy and just rinsed off with water and put back in his pocket. He works for the City water department. He's never had any problems with it and never had an omega spring break.

I've heard quite a few folks with newer BM models that seem to have bad luck.

Please tell me BM still makes good knives. Am I only seeing the "bitching" posts?

Thanks!

Both my Grip and mini-grip have not disappointed and came Kershaw sharp out of the box. The 154CM steel is one of my favorites, and they are great values for the money. Both are perfectly centered in the handle and have zero blade play in any direction. I don't think you'll go wrong.

I have never cared for BM knives except for the Grip. They seem like fine knives to me

I have three (Ritter, mini, and a trainer) and they all are excellent in regards to QC (and all other aspects as well).

No problems with my 555HG. No play, no hitting stand-offs and sharp outta the box. Get him one, he'll love it!

I've owned 3 different Grips (551, 555HG, 552) and none of them had any QC issues.

I've found it tricky to get the sweetspot between super smooth deployment with no wobble, but once it's there, it's pretty awesome. I've only had two, but both were very sharp and with few if any F&F issues.

I've owned quite a few and have used both my grip and mini grip hg pretty hard and I can say that I love these knives! For the money it really is hard to get much better. When you first buy it you'll probably think that the handle feels cheap if your not used to "plastic" handles but the norylx is very strong and light stuff. I have grown to really like it and have no doubt in my mind that it can take quite a bit of abuse. Now to sell of my to full size grips and buy a ritter!

Yes, if I am honest with myself, the Ritter Grip is the first thing I reach for when I want a knife. The Grips are well made, dependable knives that are well suited to most applications where you would use a knife. I have found the Grips to be the smoothest knives that I own and they just get better with use.

IMO, a Grip is one of the finest knives made and doesn't play second string to anyone. Purchase with confidence.

I dont care for the omega spring myself, however my grip is still kickin after a year of periodic use.

Am I only seeing the "bitching" posts?

Apparently so, and I must be missing them because I haven't seen many. Or at least not anything that is out of the ordinary for a production knife company.

I recently purchased a H20 Grip and I have no complaints. Smooth action, even grinds, centered blade, sharp.

I have owned about half a dozen or better in different flavors over the years and all have been near flawless.
