Thinking about getting my first benchmade folder.

So I've been looking around Benchmade's site and have seen alot of things that are expensive but I could save up on. I want a folder first of all. Although fixed blades are nice I'm just feeling folder. Also want a knife under 150$ and can be around 100$. Also want to know if I should personlize it by putting Wolf Trait on it. Although if I personlize it than it wouldn't be very good to sell but I'm not ever going to sell it because it's my first BenchMade knife.

why not try the 710? It has been around for almost 10 years.

I'm going to say the BM940.

It was my first quality blade I ever bought myself. Big blade, small package, and it's not really a threatening knife.

That said.. If you were open to other brands.... I carry my Manix2 WAYYYY more than my 940... (actually.. the 940s only carried if I'm going around people I know are knife spooked easily)... I also find the Volt Blem model a steal for <150 and ti framelock. If I just wanted to show-off for sub 150.. I'd probably go with my Combative Edge M1 (I think the price is higher now though, but you never know if Rob will have an Xmas sale or something) but it's a beast of a knife for the dough.

If I were you though... I'd go drop ~$60 on a kershaw I liked and ~$50 on an Izula and call it a day.

I am not trying to talk you out of a Benchmade,
but you may want to look at what Zero Tolerance has in your price range.
I think you would be very happy with what ZT is offering.

And as far as first Benchmades go,
You cannot got wrong with a Griptillian.

My first Benchmade was a full-size, drop point Griptilian (i.e., the 551). I've since bought a few more Benchmades, but I still use the Grip a lot and think that it was a great, relatively inexpensive way to get introduced to the brand (and the Axis lock).

I've had a grip.. for me it's a good all around knife... enough so that I gifted one to my father, but it just wasn't for me... I did get a Ritter Grip and that was a little better.. but seeing as my S30V manix 2 was only ~$120 and to me is a better all around knife... well I didn't keep the ritter.

I still think the 940 is possibly benchmade's best bang for buck. I also liked the 710.

The Bm's that are almost always recommended on these forums is the 710, 950, 940, and griptilian. I have a 710 and ritter grip, both great I like the 710 a little more mostly because I prefer g10 to frn, the 940 and 950 are both on my list as well.

First benchmade get the 710, the grip itn't for everbody

Couldn't disagree more. Between the Mini Griptilian and full sized Griptilian that covers a huge range of customer preferance. The 710 is a great knife but its a big knife and that right there is a limitation for many people.

Ok. I've figured out what knife I'm going to get. Now should I get my knife personlized. Please note that this is a knife I will keep forever and not sell.

No. Just get what you decided on and enjoy it.

Sure, why not. It will probably make you more likely to never sell it, of course because of the decline in resell value. Benchmade has a laser etching service and I've seen some of their work. It's pretty impressive stuff, they can put just about any design you want on the blade.

I own the mighty 710, the fantastic Nitrous Stryker, Mini Griptilian, the wicked Nagara. But when I leave home, I´ll grab my 707 Sequel most of the time. That knife is awesome... like a small Sebenza (or a small 710).

By the way, what's IMHO?

"In my humble opinion"

Use google.

This works for www acronyms too - bookmark it, it will help you in the future:

BTW, It would be wise to become familiar with the types of materials used for blades and handles,
as well as types and shapes of blades (not to mention sizes) when you are researching knives, so you can compare one to another.

I like the Benchmade 940 - I'm getting one for Christmas.
